I'm interested in this, but much more eager to see Genbu Kaiden get a release. Hopefully both will receive a DVD release in the West.

Is it just my imagination, or does this look like they might be spending money on the production for this?
Looking forward to this one. *happy dance*

It's an adaptation of a Watase Yuu manga, of which there hasn't been one in several years. I *hope* they're spending money on it!

The one with the long hair and the side buns is a girl.
Actually, I don't remember any gender bent characters in this, but I only read up to volume five.

I think that would be cool to see as well, but if you have seen Fushigi Yuugi, you know how Genbu Kaiden will end (for the most part). That's my only problem with it. Even though Arata has a lot of similarities with FY, we have no guarantee as to where its going to go, so I look forward to reading more of the manga and seeing this get animated.
I am curious what they'll do about the fact that the manga is still ongoing. I know this happens a lot in anime adaptions but FY stuck pretty close to the source material. Hopefully they'll be able to find a good place to stop and follow up with OVAs as they did with FY (I refused to acknowledge the OVA that was Eikoden even if I own it).

Looks pretty cheap to me.Have you noticed how characters are awkwardly moving,the fire at 00:21.Still I will give a show chance,although I dont have big hopes for it.

Sounds like a good genderbender plot. Kinda El Hazard-ish. but it seems like that really has nothing to do with it from what I recall of the manga I looked at.

Quote: | Viz Media publishes the manga in North America, and it describes the story:
In a mythical world where humans and gods co-exist, Arata has the unfortunate honor of being the successor to the matriarchal Hime Clan. This means he has to pretend to be a girl or face death if his true gender is discovered! |
Geez, Viz should get its summary/teaser license revoked!!! The above happens in the beginning of the story, for what, about 5 minutes, then it's over. There IS some gender bending, but, as far as I've read (up to vol. 11), it isn't a main part of the story.
So, for the curious, here's a "sexual identity" breakdown of the promo:
0:13 all men;
0:14 girl;
0:15-0:19 all boys;
0:20 gender bender (L) & girl (R);
0:24-0:25 boy;
0:26 girl (L) & boy (R);
0:27 just boys;
0:28 boy (L) & girl (R);
0:29-0:37 more boys
You're welcome!
BTW, I'm totally psyched to see this!!!

"Fushigi Yugi: Shounen". The anime looks like it has some oomph to it, which is good.
Viz really needs to change their description. A boy dresses up as a girl for about a chapter or two in the first volume. That's as far as it goes.
