Sports anime fan? the only sports anime I've seen and liked is Eyeshield 21, and this also looks good. Im wondering if it would still appeal to someone, who isn't a huge fan of sports (or sports anime), but enjoyed eyeshield 21.

It's probably the best sports anime for a non sports fan. It has a bit of a soap opera, and interesting characters etc. But what it has most is heart. It's about trying to do the extrordinary and here it hits a home run.
All the best,
Nani?

Nani really hit the nail on the head here. It's a really good show, but I think the story and drama between the girls really takes precedence over the sports. Even if you have no interest in baseball, a fan of shows like Kare Kano, Honey and Clover, and KGNE would probalby dig Princess Nine, too.
Also, keep an eye out for the ADV.com website sales. I bought their P9 box set for only $15 back in September.

If you think about it, most sport anime deal with 20% of the actual sport and like 80% of character drama. That's why movies like Rocky or Rudy can be view by non-sport lover because it doesn't necessary foces on sports. So everybody can watch a movie like Rocky and for in love with it even though it deal with boxing. It also help that most of these sport anime are aim at people who know very little about the sport in the first place.
Sports and Sports movies/series arn't one in the same.

So I don't get why people say that they can't imagine themself like a movie that deal with sports because they don't like a particular sport. |
but 90% of sports anime sucks too.

Uh, there you go assuming again. Fighting Spirit (aka Hajime no Ippo) and Slam dunk are two of the best sport anime there is. Initial D is fantastic and got many people into the street racing culture. Even Hikaru no Go, an anime about a board game, was really well done. Your 90% of sport anime doesn't make sense because you haven't backup your claim. There might be some crappy sport anime like Dear Boys or Prince of Tennis, but to say that 90% of sport anime suck and you haven't even try any of them is rediculous. Sport anime has its appeal, especially to those that probably never even was into sports. And I'm assuming all the question in general means you're new to anime.

I think a good sports anime is Fighting Spirit. The manga is better, though. With Ippo going through all this rigorous training with Takamura and the rest to face off against the best fighters in the world, plus you learn about all these different boxing styles and moves. The fights are great, and it's got some good laughs in there, too.

um...i've seen Hajime no Ippo, thats what ever got me to wonder what other sports anime was good. I can't stand Initial D, but again thats just my opinion, i know many others like it. Then I watched eyeshield, and it was very good. Before i tried any more sports anime, I wanted to make sure it was something worth watching.
and yes, that was poorly worded; forgive me. I meant this:
90% of the sports anime i've seen is crap.
Slam Dunk, i saw a little of (honestly not enough to make a great judge on) and i didn't quite jump at it; i may give the show another try, but i seriously doubt i will any time soon.
however that sounds interesting. What board game is it, or did they make one up?

A movie: School Wars: Heroes starring Shoei (rugby)
and
TV series: Pride starring Kimura Takuya of Smap (hockey)
though hockey is but it isn't the main focus of the series.

Pride isn't a bad show, although I've only seen a poorly fansubbed low quality rip.
Another show I liked was Major - although it's more sports-y than most sports anime.
