Interesting. I didn't think much of the anime but I might try the manga now that I know there is an ending in sight.

Hmm~ I've been meaning to get caught up on the manga for a long time now, but maybe I'll just wait until it's finished.

I was just checking Wikipedia the other day to see if it was reaching an end, and might I just say FINALLY.

Held off on getting the manga for the assumption that they might do a full boxset. They did a partial one before, so I figured I'd wait... Maybe the anime will get a final season too.

Yes, the manga is much better. I had a feeling it was nearing the end. So the final arc starts in the March issue that comes out in January? That's a relief! Someone on the fan forums thought the last chapter would be in March. But I didn't think Ms. Hino could finish the story in three chapters.
I'm a bit excited and nervous; I just hope Hino doesn't pull a Twilight on us! But it doesn't seem likely at this point. As for the anime, I don't know about a third season. They'd have to find a way to insert a character who was important to the next arc but who was left out in the anime.

Thank goodness. The series has been dragging for a while now, so I'm glad Hino will be ending it sooner rather than later. I just hope the ending will be at least satisfactory to those who have been following the story for years.

Well the end of the newest chapter did say the final arc was starting, so yeah, this news comes a bit late
I love this series to death and can't wait to see how it all turns out. However...
Please let it be Yuuki/Zero, please let it be Yuuki/Zero! Kaname can go rot in Hell.

I don't care about this series but this is yet another popular series that is reaching its finale. Seems like a lot of popular manga are reaching their ends or are already finished.

I agree, with a caveat. Mind you, I only know Vampire Knight for up through the two seasons of the anime, but when it ended on the sour note of Yuuki going ~okay, guess I'm a vampire queen~ and deciding to marry her brother ~as is tradition~ and all the hate-*ucking that followed...the asterisk is for "suck," of course... I kinda figured the manga-ka had thrown up her hands and decided to go as dark and bitter as possible.
So as Kaname is absolutely the foulest puke that ere was conceived to be a love interest, and Zero is truly the most unfortunate, tragic, never-given-even-a-tiny-break character I've seen in an anime (or manga I assume, I heard the show was note-for-note faithful,) I can only assume that we are faaaaaaaar past the point of what SHOULD have happened in a more conventional shojo series...Zero and Yuuki getting together. It's just...it *should* have happened, you're right, but there's no way it can be that simple at this point.
No, at the rate VK is going, if they're together at all it will be more bitter than sweet, sort of a Hunger Games romance, and far more likely is an ending where Kaname dies violently, Zero kills himself or is killed due to the strife it causes Yuuki, and her waffling porcelain-doll-brained ways will end with her alone to build a new vampire-human peace movement under rules and methods that are less incredibly stupid than the old ones displayed throughout the entire silly series.
...God, VK is such a bizarre, fatalistic, hateful little series for being a shojo romance. At least it makes it interesting to analyze! I've always been kinda fascinated with it and where it does and *really doesn't* fall into cliches for its genre. Author's got issues, dude...serious issues.
EDIT: There is another possibility supported in no way by how the series has been going, but solely by the title and my hope against hopes that poor Zero will be given a break. Kaname is the Vampire King. Yuuki is the Vampire Queen. Zero is the Vampire Knight. The series is called Vampire Knight. Is Zero really our protagonist? If this is the case, will he be the focus/ultimate victor at the end of the story even if this doesn't mean a romance so much as just giving the poor bastard a potentially happy future? One can only hope. @~@

I'm rooting for Kaname/Yuuki, just because I love his character archetype and how he brings out the dark side of Yuuki instead of the innocent schoolgirl. But I love the darker stuff, so...

Sorry about my last post; hopefully no one saw the spoilers, my apologies if anyone happened to see it before I deleted it. My brain is not cooperating tonight.
I agree with you, Jesu. I was going to mention almost everything that's happened since the point where the anime ended. But that would probably spoil too much and take awhile to explain. But basically, Yuuki and Kaname are no longer together, because he decided to go back to his original course of action, which is to kill all the purebloods and sacrifice his life to turn Yuuki back into a human. Oh, and he was also responsible for Shizuka escaping and killing Zero's parents. That was also all part of his plan.
So Zero definitely deserves a happy ending and I agree with you about him being the Vampire Knight.

This. After everything he's done (and I'm following the English release - I'm assuming things will get worse by the time our version catches up), I find the Kaname fandom incomprehensible. I also want to shake the four - yes, four as of the most recent volume with Ichijo's diversion of Yuki's question all but a confession - characters who are in love with him until their teeth rattle. For God's sake, he's using three of them up like tissues! Either Zero or Kain needs to plug him.

This is just my opinion, but I've always felt that Kaname (and Yuki's dependency on him) made her a weaker character. I can't stand Yuki with Kaname or how she makes excuses for him simply because she loves him and feels indebted to him (all signs of an unhealthy relationship). In contrast, Yuki is actually much stronger when Kaname is out of the picture (and she's out of his influence).
So I have to agree with everyone who's hoping for a Yuki/Zero ending -- though, given all that's transpired in the story, I don't even know if such a thing is possible anymore.
Also, I think it's been pretty obvious for a while that Zero is the Vampire Knight of the title and that his journey is, in some ways, much of the focus of the story. What that means for his fate, I have no idea. My bet, though, would be that it's more plausible that Zero would survive over Kaname and/or Yuki by the story's end. He may even end up eventually being the advocate for peace between humans and vampires, thus keeping Yuki's dream alive.

I'm pretty sure the ending will parallel Juri/Haruka/Kaien. As in, Kaname and Yuuki will both die, and Zero lives and becomes an advocate for human/vampire coexistence.
It's pretty much confirmed that Kaname will die. Almost everyone wants him dead. Even Kaname wants to sacrifice himself.
Yuuki also wants to sacrifice herself, and I think she will do more good by dying than she would by staying alive, honestly.
