And yet... they haven't released more than the first volume in English, have they...
I only read three volumes, but it was so good... ...but there are so many volumes out now... D: |

Considering Ryutaro Nakamura has completely vanished from the face of the earth I do not hold out any hope of this being any sort of further anime adaptation.

I would say I am surprised that this was ever licensed, but at one time they actually licensed dark stuff like Lain, Texhnolyze, this, and others. That being said I was never a fan. Kino was dull, unemotional, bland. The moped would have been good as a human character, personality wise he was cool, but it was talking moped. I never really felt anything ever happend in terms of the characters or plot. Maybe the light novels are better, but I am curious as to what this announcement is.

I really liked the TV series. I'm pretty sure that only the first book was published in English.

I loved the anime series. I found Kino to be a refreshing change from the kinds of personalities anime characters often have, and appreciated her unusual gender identity. I always found that scene where she's talking to the woman who lost a child fascinating, because it's an all too rare acknowledgement that for some women, having children is something that would never even occur to them if no-one else bought it up, not because they're a nasty person, but just because people vary and women are people. I haven't read any of the light novels, but would really like to. I hope this announcement is either for another anime series (or even a movie, perhaps they could do an anthology film with several different stories ala Michel Ocelot's Tales of the Night, which could be awesome as it might actually manage to get theatrical distribution and thus exposure amongst people who like movies but not TV), or for a print release in English.

Lucky Japanese readers! I liked the heck out of Kino's Journey-the-anime and how stylish its presentation was, but when I got my hands on the translated LN I was kind of put off by how boring and amateurish the prose was! I'm blaming the translation. I'd really like to see a translator with better literary skills take another whack at this series, but I know that'll never happen. wehhh.

Still my favorite anime series; still annoyed the OVAs were never licensed.

Not just any motorcycle but a Brough Superior the Rolls-Royce of Motorcycles. These sell for hundreds of thousands dollars today.
I know it is really dreaming at this point but I hope another company picks up the Kino novels for and English novel. I have the Tokyopop one but I'd just love to read the rest. |

Speaking of light novels that desperately need to be re-released in the U.S. otherwise I'll just import the books even though I can only read a few lines of Japanese. *hint* *hint*
Really? I loved how Kino was the prime example of a Neutral Protagonist. The use of "boke" when speaking, ability to turn on the same person that was once in distressed, to kill not with neither malice nor for sport but for survival, (in the case of the Tournament arc from the TV series) to put an otherwise hopeless situation that benefited a few and completely turn the rules against them, etc. Kino is one of the type of protagonist I actually enjoy and rarely see in anime. |

I hate to spoil everyones fun but the "surprise" he was speaking about is probably the upcoming new Nendoroid Petite version of Kino that Good Smile Company is planning to release in 2013.

Don't tell me that it will be a live-action version with Gorky. |
