Lot of Japanese automotive companies jumping on the anime wagon. Wonder what's inspiring the sudden interest?

Maybe bribery, like some of the producers and high-ranked artists are promised a special price for the newest car models

This is truly the future of all media. Not so much a 6 min commercial. But complete product placement. Pizza Hut in Darker than Black, A&W in the space cat anime.
Its been common in US movies for decades. Anyone remember Twister and the 2 hour Dodge Ram commercial it was?

Maybe it's cheaper in the long run then hiring live actors (including Hollywood actors) and producing a car stunt.

What's next, Aston Martin asking Madhouse to make a anime segment with James Bond to promote Skyfall's Japanese release (yes, I'm a big Bond fan and I love the movie).

I'll definitely be checking this out! I'll never own a Benz in my life (lol), but hey, I'm not a fan of Toyota and I watched all the segments of PES.

If the animation is great and the cars aren't CG, sure, why not.

When a business pays something for work done it's called a transaction, this is advertising, good advertising it probably is much cheaper than a Superbowl commercial.

Cars will almost certainly be CG. Almost no anime anymore uses traditional animation for vehicles, it's just much easier to use CG.
Last big anime that used traditional techniques for vehicles was Redline.
