Let's dedicate this topic to some "unknown" fine unlicensed anime.

Let's head this topic off with Rozen Maiden, probably pretty known in the anime community and probably didn't get licensed because of its excentric premise. A show about dolls sounds odd and extremely girlish and well for the most part it is, yet the plot is quite interesting because of it. Each doll seems to emit some kind of Alice in Wonderland atmosphere in it as well. I really love this series and hope it'll get licensed anyway sometime soon.

Any other Rozen Maiden fans out there btw?

Hmm, ok, Pani Poni Dash! is an extremely funny unlicensed comedy anime. PPD is a school life comedy and reminds me of an Azumanga Daioh on crack. PPD has many characers in it, some characters in particular that draw many peoples attention are Becky, Ichijo, and Himeko. Becky's a 12 year old teacher who graduated from M.I.T. Ichijo is mysterious... very odd and does many unexpected (and unexplained) things. Himeko... basically she is draws all her energy from her ahoge (the piece of hair that sticks out of her head), runs around shouting "MAHO", loves eating crab, and uses the word "Omega" very often as an adjective. Personally my favorite character is the very clumsy and cute one, Akira. I wonder why, maybe it has to do with the seiyuu...

Well, I'm really enjoying 4 titles at the moment:

Bleach-Popular shounen martial-arts anime which could be described as sort of a combination of Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The story is highly entertaining with some great twists and it has a lot of great characters.

Monster-An excellent drama/mystery series with a well written storyline. It's quite addicting really, it's almost a must to watch multiple episodes in one sitting. The characters are quite well fleshed-out and feel very real.

Blood+-Sequel to Blood: The Last Vampire, this one is really getting good. I wasn't really a fan of the movie but this series is a lot better in my opinion. It has great atnosphere and interesting action complimented with some mystery and drama.

Shuffle-Also a good series, it's more of a comedy in the begining but gets more serious as things progress. It would fall under the romantic comedy/harem genre, but it's not your average harem show with a good helping of drama as well. Currently, I'm really anticipating the last episode of the series.

Let's See:

Shin Taiho Shichauzo (You're Under Arrest, Series 2): For the life of me, I do not understand how the first season, iits mini-specials, and the movie get licensed, but the second season, which is better than the first, does not.

School Rumble: Following in the footsteps of parody anime like Excel Saga, Galaxy Angels, School Rumble takes all of the usual anime conventions, stands them on the head, and knocks them all down. No anime stone if left unturned, and the jokes come out of left field.

GLASS no Kamen: The animation is dated (it looks like one done by the Tatsunoko Company - the makers of the original Macross - and Robotech by extension), but the story is one that is surprisingly good. 14 year-old Maya Kitajima dreams of performing on stage. Under the tutlelage of former acting legend, she hones her craft while competing against the acting genius Ayumi Himekawa, who is the daughter of a famous actress and a movie director.

Sexy Commando: While it sounds like the name of some ecchi/hentai anime, it really is not. It follows the unfortunate saga of Okometsubu Fujiyama, who transfers to a new school, and ends up being befriended by Masaru Hananakajima, a guy who has mastered many fighting styles and creates his own, called the Sexy Commando. Along the way, they pickup several weird friends and enemies. The episodes are short, but hilarious.

I agree that it does do quite a bit of parody, but it really fits best alongside school comedy shows like Azumanga Daioh than shows that exist entirely as parodies.

The title of the anime Galaxy Angel is not plural (of course I'm the only one who would point this out).

I'd add one of my recent favorites, BECK. This show is almost like a shonen sports anime, except the main character joins a rock band, not the soccer squad. This show is funny, and a lot of fun. And the music is FLCL quality - there's even a cameo by the Pillows.

Ashita no Joe-A great classic of all time. It was the original boxing manga and told a great story of Japan's working class during the late 1960s. It is filled with lots of great action and great story development. It's not really a rags from riches and back to rags story in the way that the Rocky movies were, but it's a story of finding your dreams and going with them.

Ring ni Kakero-Based off the hit manga that popularized Shounen Jump. Too bad the manga itself can never go outside of Asia.
