If you like violence, sex, and well violence I highly recommend it. But I have heard the ending is horrible. I only have up to volume 7 but since the first season box set was announced, I figured I would wait for the second season to be released in a box set so I will save the money. I figure you are asking this because you are thinking of getting the box set of season 1. The first volume of the second season felt a lot better IMO. Well I picked up these volumes individually on their release date so I guess I do recommend them because they must have been doing something right if I kept coming back for more.

I know but since season 1 has been announced, I figured season 2 would be announced some time in the future because I don't see why they would release a season 1 and 2 box set when they have already released a season 1 box set. After being told about the horrible ending I figured I could wait a couple of months or even years for the second season. I only picked up volume 7 because I got it used for $8.

If you're looking for violence and sex, you'll like it.
Storywise... it's not really there. The manga doesn't even begin to reveal the purpose of GANTZ until after the Buddha Arc, where the anime should end (I've only seen up to episode 4 of the anime). The anime ends around chapter 100 of the manga, which is over 200 chapters and still going. So, rather than leave an opening for another season, Gonzo made their own ending. Gonzo is not known for having good endings. And from what I've heard of the ending (spoiler[that everything turns out to be a dream]), GANTZ isn't going to change that. |

So the anime has spoiler[the everything being a dream thing?] I was just told that at the end spoiler[everybody dies in a stupid reterded ending form] so after everyone spoiler[dies he wakes up from his dream?]

One simple answer: yes. Lots of violence, and lots of graphic depictions of the consequences of said violence. |

I just finished one episode or other(cant remember the number) and spoiler[everyone except Kurono is dead] which really pissed me off.
I wanted to see what happened with Sadako, the one with human sized breasts, but no... if you want loads of action with gore and such I suppose this is a good series for that...but you will grow old waiting for the characters to do anything. I'm all for character development(I like romance stories so its expected) but when the people take around a quater of an hour to even shoot their guns at what is obviously trying to kill them and then stand there all undecided I get really annoyed. this is quite possibly the first series I have audibly yelled at the people to do something! |

Everything isn't spoiler[a dream]. The ending is just really vague and makes no sense on purpose because the manga goes on far far longer than the anime series. Also, the last mission of the anime didn't take place. This is where the stories devided to cut the story short. |

indeed the ending of the series is even worse than a dream, I just watched it and its AWFUL!
it doesnt even give you the satisfaction of a real ending, spoiler[the screen whites out on you and Gantz teleports away] thats it... |

This was one series that I have heard a lot about, including positive reviews, but when I watched it I just didn't get it at all. It just seemed like a really bad adaptation of a manga. I kept watching eps, waiting for an explanation of what occurred in the first few, and nothing was revealed. Like Hentai4me said, they went into this long, boring and uninteresting back story which didn't advance the main plot, and I wasn't too impressed with the main plot to begin with. My advice is to spend your money elsewhere.

the series also suffers from incoherency.
during the build up to each of Gantz' missions(there are only 4 in the entire series...) they try to give screen time to each of the people who will be involved with the mission, spoiler[usually charting how they die] and also trying to follow existing characters so you get a 30second snap of Katou, then 15 seconds of someone new, then 25 seconds of Kurono, then someone new, then Kurono groping kishimoto(who's breasts are bigger than her upper body in some shots!) then they all jump around between them constantly leaving ou with dozens of tiny snippets that make little sense as a whole. also for some reason all old ladies look exactly the same, as do many small children. spoiler[I could have sworn that the old lady and the small boy with her in the mission where Nishi dies were the ones Katou was with...] so if all you want is meaningless violence then look no further, if you want violence with even a bad reason then look elsewhere, if you want coherency then your'e miles off... |

I've only seen up to episode 17 but I don't remember a "hardcore action scene". Wait, were you talking about a hardcore SEX action scene? If you were, then there is no "penetration" or even shots of the lower areas but there is a lot of softcore stuff like what you would see in cinemax. But non sex action there is. Exploding limbs and even heads are in almost every episode. |
