I don't get why people are upset that I didn't like a couple of episodes.
All I can say is that the foray into side characters for two episodes was a concern for me since the series is so short. That, and basically what Blood- was saying:

I could be wrong about that, but I think we are expected to be rooting for her and Jun. It could be a situation of a character getting away from its creators. |
It felt kind of manipulative, trying to get the audience(me) to root for these characters when they weren't given enough scenes together in earlier episodes to make me interested in their supposed romance.

I must have missed something because I didn't see this disdain. IIRC, she was totally fan=girling over him when he was doing his Chet Baker routine at the gig in the sailor bar (episode 4).
In any case, I guess the story is getting back on track. Is this series 11 episodes or 12? I hope it is 12 and we get a satisfying resolution.

Before they got there, the walk to the bar, he' teased her about being a rich girl and she was completely blowing him off as a self-important jerk.

Ah. ok. I didn't even remember that. I guess that scene was intended to create enough subtext for all the romantic tension I was supposed to feel. oh well.

Spastic Minnow, you make some excellent points and I actually think that was how the creator initially wrote the characters. I mentioned this in the Shelf Life thread, but it bears repeating: it's hard to know the mangaka's actual intent when we don't have the manga. Dramatic Josei manga takes its time with characterization, often using internal monologues and symbolism to let the audience know what the characters are truly thinking, what their intentions and motivations are. When you try to compress what was probably an important side plot into two brief episodes, something gets lost in the translation.
I wish they had the time to expound upon Jun's experiences at college, his reaction to his family's rejection, and Yurika's family dynamics. According to Wikipedia, the anime staff only had 12 episodes to cram it all in, so the characters' motives got fuzzy.
Wait, 12 episodes? I wish I could confirm that! That's one more episodes than I was expecting, and that would be great!

Yeah, that makes sense. I really would like to read the manga and see if I get a different impression.
I'm happy we are getting an extra episode, too. I was thinking next episode was the last up 'til this morning.

Well for starters I'm surprised, not 'upset' as it were. What surprised me is that you're assuming the intentions of the series' creators on some pretty dubious grounds - to wit, that they wanted either everyone/majority or none/minority to like the prenominate characters. I do however feel they're pivotal characters, particularly for the development of Sentaro on an intensely psychoemotional level. I suspect their recent decisions have played no small part in the end of episode 10.
Regardless, as I said-typed to Blood- (or what was implied therein), I worded the initial sentence poorly and I apologize for that.

Good episode.Again I think the shows greatest strength is the incredible amount of development put in one episode, that the other series stretch forever. With only one episode to go I am pretty curious which direction will the ending take,I am really hoping that it ends on depressing note although I highly doubt it will.

What I liked about this episode, is it lured me into a false sense of security. I was all broken up by the end of episode ten thinking Sentaro was leaving. Then, at the start of episode 11, Kaoru successfully stops him. So, for the entirety of this episode, I'm all happy and relaxed...right up until Kaoru states he wishes things would remain as they are. Classic tell that something bad/tragic is going to happen. And it does...and Sentaro ends up leaving, but for different reasons then at the beginning of the episode. To me, that is some excellent storytelling.

For me, I was just immensely thankful I didn't have to sit through the 1,834,452th rendition of "A Few of My Favourite Things" at the festival.

Meanie Ritsuko's singing put the biggest goofy smile on my face through the entire scene.

I can't say I don't feel ya on that, but it does have a sort of bittersweet application to the story, with the contrast between the lyrics' idea of crises (dog bites, bee stings) and their real lives. That, and Karou's favorite thing no longer exists, for now at least, so what's he supposed to think of to feel better?

Holy crap, am I the only person here who likes the song? All jazz standards are subject to relentless individual interpretation, and it's not like we're talking about All Blues here. Oh well, each his own I guess.
