Feh, you guys got me too damn curious. So here's the list I got after some manual searching of anime section. It doesn't account for length of an episode, though. And, also, I doubt this is really that accurate, but at least it's a better starting point...

I don't Know what is the longest
running one but I can say that
Astro boy has been around for some time.

I understand that, however, I can not count it by half-hours or half those shows would be lower.

How many segments and episode? 2? 3? (how do I cut the number I have, basically)
Does each segment have it's own title screen?
Most importantly: How does the studio count it?

Until I know that, I can't really list it any show differently, from what I do know. And, for Doraemon, I have...

Well there used to be another anime database where I got my information from, I just can't find it anymore.

I remember the gist of what it said was that the episode count of Doraemon is derived from the total number of the 15-minute segments, while Sazae-san had around 1800 half-hours (at the time).

And, the manga list. It's likely less accurate than the anime list, due to the lower amount of information and titles in database.

Even so, there are plenty shows which have 2 episodes in a single half-hour block but are they are still counted as 2 episodes, not 1. For example, Ichigo 100% (which is now wrong Mad

), has 24, 12 minute episodes. In reality it was only 12 half-hour episodes, but the studio claims it's 24 episodes long. I don't agree with it myself (studio padding it's title), but how can I argue against it? There were 24 episode titles in the show...

Actually, Jojo is still in continuation and volume 85 came out just this August.

For Hajime no Ippo, volume 74 comes out next month.

Inu-Yasha is still continuing, with chapter 434 (mid-way through volume 44) the most recently released chapter in Shonen Sunday.

Volume 43 comes out December 15. And it should probably be noted that Rumiko Takahashi recently stated that it may go as long as 500 chapters before it ends.

I must have gotten the anime ending mixed up with the manga. Anime smile + sweatdrop

I haven't read too much of Steel Ball Run yet, but in a way, it's still somewhat part of the original Jojo story arc according to my friends who are hardcore Jojo fans and know more about it.

As for HnI, I'm pretty sure there is enough material to make up to volume 76.

Yeah, it sounds like a spinoff, like it's listed. I'm not counting spinoffs, since they tend to change the main characters. I realize Jojo changes main characters often, but this time the creator decided to change the title (there is no Jojo on the Steel Ball Run books), drop the Jojo naming theme, and go back in time. Three things that are inconsistant with the Jojo books. It may be related (spinoffs usually are) but it really sounds like it's different...to me, anyway.

There is a Jojo character, Johnny Joestar, and many features such as stands and the hamon are present in this one as well. The Steel Ball Run story arc is a "spin off" but still created from the last story arc, Stone Ocean, which in some ways still has a connection to the original Jojo universe. I know the Stone Ocean story arc manga also has some of the same treatment that Steel Ball Run has right now.
