Not especially, of course I've yet to really find anything animated truly scary. It has a spooky atmosphere and it pulls that off well, but it's not especially scary, just more or less creepy.

that commercial on cartoon network was pretty cool. i expect to be disappointed though as it's only 45 minutes long.

I found it scary but not in a Freddy Krueger sense, but a "Soylent White is People!" sense. All I'll say is this: turn down the lights, pump up the volume, and fasten your seatbelts, people . . . it's a good watch regardless of length.

You mean Soylent Green is people. I think Soylent White was from a Saturday Night Live skit with Phil Hartman playing Charlton Heston.

I saw the DVD in stores and the running time on it rread only 30 minutes so it might be even shorter. Im still watching it I mean it is ¨free¨ so might as well give it a chance. I gave Kikaider a chance and believe it or not i liked it and was entertained by that crappy looking robot.

Kakurenbo draws on Japanese folklore and I imagine it might be scary for younger children. While I didn't find the anime scary, I did find the take on Japanese folklore rather interesting. The story is well told and the animation is beautiful.
I'm mixed about the length. It was really well done for 25 minutes. But it's so good, I wish it had been longer.
It's definately worth a watch.
