My friends and I are huge fans of Hellsing and I would like some information on the new upcoming OVA series. Is it a prequil to the T.V series or anything like that, the amount of episodes, anything you know would be a great help.

Thanks in advanced.

Its the original story manga. The first hellsing only followed it a little it went ahead of the manga and started its own story. The OVA will follow the manga. No word yet on how many epps will be. This is just what from I know.

The producers are keeping things open in this regard. Thus far, the closest we've gotten to an episode count are things like "however long it takes to complete the manga" and "three-year project." Basically, they're gonna go at a pace of about 1-2 episodes per manga volume until they get through the whole thing.

Brand new series. New animation studio. Geneon-USA co-production. Larger Budget, generally more violent, different soundtrack than the TV series. Supposedly same voice cast as the TV series on both sides of the world (Crispin Freeman/George Nakata are the major players here since they generally make the show, as they are Alucard and well.. everyone loves him?). First episode is out in Japan in September. It will be produced over three years, with two volumes per year, with one or two episodes per volume. Episodes will be 35 minutes long, anamorphic widescreen and will have 5.1 surround. It will finish roughly the same time as the last volume of the Manga (volume 10) comes out.

'S about it. Like all other OVAs, the continued production of it depends on how many preorders/sales are made, so if you want to get more of this, speak with your money, not with you OMG L33T INTARNETS

No, however they might come out sooner, or closer to their Japanese release dates, depending on how the disc-spread will go (IE, will we have one episode per disc, or two? The more we have, the longer we wait, etc)

I think Crispin freemen isent going to play as Alucard's voice on the OVA Because He went Union. Geneon dose non-union work. Only if Geneon goes union agian will we see him back as Alucard.
And Also....
They say the Hellsing manga will probably end at vol. 10, and the OVA should be about two episodes per volume of manga, so there should be about 20 episodes.

Here's hoping anyway, the first 6 volumes of the manga have been great so far hopefully Hirano can keep up the quality in the next 4. If so it will be a truely excellent series.

Confirmed through multiple sources. The exact episode count pretty much won't be set until the series' production is actually wrapped up or close to it, but to guess about 12-22-ish episodes would be a good ballpark estimate.

The September 2005 issue of Play Magazine has an interview with Kouta Hirano (the creator) and Yasuyuki Ueda (producer)! I hope posting this is ok, I just wanna share it with those who don't read/haven't heard of Play Magazine. Anyway...

play: When you set out with creating Hellsing, how did you approach the vampire genre, and what made you want to separate Alucard from the typical dignified, cloaked vampire type?

Kouta Hirano: When I set out creating Alucard, I wanted to do a story with gunplay, so making a vampire with guns just didn't work with this formulatic vampire. I added the hat, the long coat... It's still dark and ominous, but just more suited to his behavior. I always come up with the characters before the story.

The concept for Seras Victoria was quite an original idea as well, with a cop getting bit and becoming a sidekick. How did that happen?

Hirano: Well, coming from a dark, desolate story, I wanted to create someone who made the series a bit warmer, and a female character involved as well... Seras offered me that opportunity for both of those at the same time. She's the only one that stands out from the darkness.

Why did you want to revisit the title in an OVA?

Yasuyuki Ueda: With the series, there is the usual limitation of time that you can work on each episode, and I wanted to take more time to get more out of my system from the manga, being the fan of it that I am. The OVA allows me to do so much more this time around. Two years ago, I sat down at a convention with writer Yousuke Kuroda, our scenario writer, about it, and he agreed to write the script... That's how it all began and turned it in to what it is today.

What's the count of the episodes you'd intend it to go?

Ueda: Right now, it stands at 30-35 minutes for the first episode from the very beginning of the manga... but if it does well, it will go as long as it sells and wherever the manga takes us. So please, when it gets released here, please buy it! [laughs]

I also noticed, having watched the trailer three times now beforehand, there's a blend of CG elements throughout... Is that going to play heavier into the new OVA?

Ueda: Series today in Japan use quite a lot of CG, which can still be very time consuming, especially when incorporating it with traditional animation, but now that this project is an OVA, we have that luxury. I would like to use it effectively as much as possible-weaponry, bullets-to make it look realistic.

How long did the manga series take to create overall?

Hirano: The original story didn't take long. I was drawing... [laughing] hentai at the time, and that actually afforded me the opportunity to have it published, of all things.

Beyond the realm of the supernatural and fantastic, what would you like to move on to after Hellsing wraps up?

Hirano: I've been working with a theme of death, murder and so on for so long now with Hellsing that I'd want to try something infinitely lighter-I have a few ideas. [smiles]

--------------------

Sorry in advance for any spelling/typo errors, I would've scanned the article but it's 5am and I'm too lazy to hook up my scanner atm (though if anyone's interested, I'll go ahead and do it later today Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop ).

Okay i'm a just a bit confused about something and I need clarification. Since the ova series will be following the manga will the beginning be just like the tv series or will the ova series start off differently? I mean if they follow the beginning just like the tv series then isn't that just pointless? Anyways just need clarification if the ova series will start differently yet still based on the manga.

"Believe it!"
