Cool, I have the first two, so I'll probably pick this up as well.

Wasn't that movie meh? It was a short set up to future movies that never got made. Well it's just a matter of time till they snag Arcadia of My Youth.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this one has never gotten a US release, either by Viz or back when Toei was doing its short-lived download-to-own thing, right?

If Discotek is on such a Matsumoto kick, maybe they could pick up that Emereldas OAV from a while back. ADV put out 2 of its 4 episodes on one VHS… was surprised to see later episodes of it running at a con (without subtitles).

Then again, if ADV couldn't make it work back in the bubble, maybe Discotek knows to stay away.

Nice to see Discotek still licensing more of 999 even after that failure of a company picked up the series.

I guess for consistency, but it and the Maetel Legend OVA aren't really that good, even if we throw on the rose-tinted Leiji-goggles. That late 90s and early 00s time period had a bunch of Leiji material, but I think the only one that stood out was Endless Odyssey. The rest were mired in dumb and trying overly hard to mix serious with comical, or just boring like Harlock Saga. But that better Harlock OVA stands out because it's Rintaro, Kawajiri, and other longtime Madhouse fellows.

Huh. Didn't even know there was a third 999 film. I own, but have not watched, the first two, so the completist in me will need to eventually get this.

While we're digging up more 999 stuff… Clements & McCarthy's The Anime Encyclopedia indicates that there was also a 1980 featurette GE999: Through a Glass Clearly, and three TV movies that were adapted from parts of the TV show with significant new footage (47 minutes for the last one). Anybody know anything about these?

Yeah, based on the viewer ratings, looks like this one isn't as well-regarded as the other two films. Still, I may get it, but I'll probably be content with just the first two films in my collection (and maybe the TV series when it comes out, I'll get the first set at least and see how good the TV version is).

I liked the third movie, but it should have been at least twice as long. Granted, the manga it's based on is random as all hell, but it could still stand to be a little bit more elaborate.

But eh... I will most likely be picking up this one too.

Automatic Purchase.

This is actually my favourite of the movies since it has the best Animation. Normally of course this doesnt matter but with a movie budget behind it and 90's animation techniques it makes the Galaxy Express Universe look Stunning!

Thanks Discotek.

Huh, count me as another who didn't know there was a third movie (actually it seems there are several movie length "specials" and short 15-30 minute "movies" too, perhaps they shall one day get those too?)

I just watched the first movie a couple of nights ago, I'm debating if I want to get Adieu since it doesn't really seem like it needs it. And with the Bobobo problems and the fact that I don't think GE999 needs to be a 113 episode series, I probably won't pick that up. I mean I liked the movie, but not enough to buy everything you could say. But the Captain Harlock license, that I might be getting.

Really? You have to admit, S'More is only JUST getting into anime, they did include the scripts, and they did make a statement about the error on Facebook, so is it really okay to deem them a failure so quickly? Who knows. Maybe they'll fix their errors. It's only the beginning. Every beginning company makes its mistakes in the beginning. NIS America edited Pandora Hearts in the beginning, but they learned their lesson and are now licensing titles like crazy!

After revisiting this film on BD, it really looks a lot older than it is. The character design, the sound, the overall look, all feel more later 80s than late 90s. I'm wondering why they went backward on Tetsurou's design from the first two films, he's back to the chunky TV design that makes significantly less "heroic". I suppose it make sense, as it follows the TV canon and not the film canon, but I thought canon and continuity were beyond Leiji's comprehension.
