anime#5114

It says "[ sequel of Hellsing (TV) ]" at the very top of the page. It's been known practically since the project was first announced that it was not a sequel to the TV series. Kouta Hirano and Yasuyuki Ueda have stated several times in recent months that the OAV series will be a faithful adaptation of the manga, and is in no way related the Gonzo TV series.

The Hellsing manga's page: manga#32

The Hellsing TV series is listed as the "adaptation" and the OAV series as the "sequel". Both are incorrect. The OAV series is the adaptation, and the TV series is only loosely based on the manga. There is no "sequel" to the Hellsing manga.

The Hellsing TV series' page:
anime#387

The Hellsing OAV series is listed as the sequel. This is incorrect.

So it breaks down like this:

We have the Hellsing manga. Hellsing - The Dawn is the prequel manga. The TV series is loosely based on the manga. The Hellsing OAV series is an adaptation of the manga. The two animated series are in no way related to each other, but they are both related to the manga.

That's not true.

When the project was first announced they were telling us that it would be faithful to the original manga, nothing was said about whether it would start at the end of the manga, or somewhere later. Everyone (including myself) that assumed it would start at the beginning did just that, made an assumption. Since we don't act on assumtions, it was originally listed as "related to" the manga.

Early in the summer new, somewhat official, information came out saying that the series would pick up after the TV series and return to being faithful to the manga.

That turned out to be incorrect.

Oterwise, yes, the relation should be changed from sequel of the tv series to adaptation of the manga.

The tv series will remain as an "adaptation" of the manga. No where in our definition of "adaptation" does it specify that the adaptation has to be 100% faithful. In fact the word "adaptation" implies some sort of change.

Hm, I don't remember that happening. I remember people asking about it constantly, but the official story was that it would start from the beginning.

That makes perfect sense.

Thanks for fixing it! =)
