Hello everyone! I'm trying to find out more about a trailer I saw for an anime movie called "Precedence Edition Atheist". It is apparently from The Dry Mind's Company and produced by Naruse Kaoru.

I'd like to know if the whole movie represented by the trailer has been released, and where I can buy a copy to watch, but I can't find anything about it on Google.

I could link this trailer in mpeg format here, but I am confused about the rules here regarding linking trailers. I read the rules, and I know I am generally not allowed to link multimedia files here, but this thread makes it seem like linking trailers is okay.

If it is okay to link the trailer here, let me know and I will, so that people can more easily help me. I would really appreciate if someone could translate the Japanese in the trailer (there's not much).

Thanks to everyone who can provide me with any further information on this anime movie.

Linking trailers is all right - the trailers are freely available to the general public, after all - assuming the site that hosts it is a legitimate site, and not a site that hosts fansubs and the like. We don't allow links to those, no matter what content is being linked.

Anyway, you've got me curious, at least. Let's see a link to the trailer.

Okay, I think I found this on usenet, so I am hosting it on one of the (otherwise unrelated) sites I maintain. Here it is:

Precedence Edition Atheist (15mb, mpg format, modem users right-click and select "save as")

If anyone has more information, or can translate the Japanese in the trailer for me, both would be most appreciated.

Okay, I've seen it. I've got bad news and good news and even better news.

The bad news is that this is not a trailer for an anime - it's more or less a Japanese AMV (complete with truly bad Engrish). "Precedence Edition Atheist" would appear to be the title of the AMV.

The good news is that (like all its kind) the AMV uses an existing anime (in this case, Air (TV)) as source material.

The even better news is that Air is actually a very good anime, with wonderful animation and soundtrack. If you like what you saw in that AMV, you may consider it a (poorly) fan-made trailer for a very watchable anime.

It that a trailer or a fan-project? I ask because I notice it consists of only still images, collaged together artfully, but still no actual animation. Furthermore, the theme comes from "Keyboardmania" and the pictures are just said to be from "Air."

Seen it too.

Anyway, those still pictures (CGs) are definitely from Air (Game), not from the anime.

Okay, that would explain a lot. Thanks!

I'm an anime fan and an atheist, but I've never seen anime that deals with atheism in any direct way, so I was curious about what I thought was an anime movie about an atheist. I guess that was just what some guy named his fan-project though.

Still, I'll have to see "Air" now. I followed your link and it looks really good and got good reviews. I do like what I see in the AMV, so I'm looking forward to seeing "Air".

I'd be interested in an anime about or dealing with atheism as well. Does anyone know one?

Well, for some reason (perhaps its inherent sterility and lack of dynamism as a story element), atheism doesn't figure prominently in that many stories. It shows up, on occasion, as counterpoint to clearly belief-oriented story elements (for instance, in the Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever novels by Donaldson), or as an issue in stories about crises of faith (e.g. The Exorcist), but it isn't really that easy to build a story around.

Anyway, I'd love to see an anime (or any story, for that matter) dealing seriously with atheism.

I agree, it's no that easy without either combining it with one of the aspects you mentioned or shock every strongly believing christian.
I mean you could do something extreme, say a story in a world where humanity prooved that there's no god, or destroyed god, or a story where someone tries to convince others to give up their religion...
