You used to watch anime, but then you took an arrow to the knee, eh?
...Sorry, had to be done. |

Episode 4 was cute. I suppose they changed Tsubasa's appearance to be a bit novel and fresh for viewers? Or maybe there's some background bit that will be revealed in time as to why her hair is shorter and she no longer wears glasses.
Anyhow so the first bit was moving the story somewhat along, but the 2nd leg was the more interesting part for me. Remember that quiet girl from Bakemono? Yeah well, she decided to talk and wow what a character. They did a really good job of piquing my interest about their (Araragi and her) relationship and what exactly happened. Maybe I'll take the time to look it up, but I'd prefer if it to be revealed via anime at some point. We got the usual dose of fan-service, but honestly at this point if you're not expecting it by now I'm amazed. The ED is so catchy as well...bring on more of the harem dialogue! |

www.kizumonogatari-movie.com/ Shinobu is Kiss-shot they went over it some in Bakemonogatari. The movie will cover what happened during golden week(all of the stuff they kept referencing and doing small flash backs for in Bake). |

Yay Shinobu said something, been waiting for that since we saw the little girl sitting quitly in a corner. I was confused for a second when she mentioned a kid filling her with ghost stories, but she was refering to Meme, confusing when he is middle aged and she looks "8". The seens might come off as lolicon fanservice, but I saw it more of the fact that they are bare to each other, that she is in a sense closer than all the other girls. Kind of strange since, they both say spoiler[they will not forgive each other.]
I think the part most interesting about her is that her depressed looking muteness earlier was contemplating her 500 years, culminating her large talk here. LOL she called Senjogahara tsundere, no saying she tsundere, didn't meme say something like that? The quistion of life span kind of caught me off guard, though spoiler[it was likely something that Koyomi had to think about some time, and perhaps even a look into Shinobu's own experience.] Didn't quite belive that Tsukihi was so dangerous until seeing her reaction to seeing a spoiler[naked Shinobu, instead of screaming she grabs a sharp kitchen knife and pot lid as a shield.] And Tsubasa's new look, couldn't even tell it was still her, kind of kudos since it shows a character more than just their normal look. Perhaps trying to be fresh as the way she had been before lead to a lot of stress, that she needed to make changes. |

Definitely setting us up for Kizumonogatari with episode 4 here. Giving a little more substance to Shinobu. Or....... a lot more substance.
Anyway, it was cute to see them holding each other. Reminds me of before the Kanbaru fight in Bakemonogatari where the moon is just hitting them and Shinobu sucks his blood to make him more powerful. The big question is- did we want her to jump out of nowhere and start talking? Honestly, that's a no for me, at least it was until I found out how much I adore her character. Still, I liked the silent, mysteriousness to her. Guess I'm fine with it overall though. This is most certainly the best anime out this season..... I hate having to wait in between episodes. |

This isn't really setup for Kizumonogatari, while it's a prequel Kizumonogatari was also produced before this. This conversation was meant to be the seen by people who've already read Kizu and know of those events.
Koyomi's joy mixed with apprehension, them never forgiving each other, this entire talk will take on another dimension once we've seen Kizumonogatari. Shinobu is a great addition to the cast and it looks like Meme was prepping her to help Araragi for when he was gone. |

What I got out of episode 4 is that Kizu is going to be a lot better and SHAFT really piled on the crotch shots of Araragi. Oh, and Karen is sick.

Tsubasa isn't coming off as very smart. I guess we found out that she was instrumental in getting Karen into her current predicament. She doesn't seem terribly guilt-wracked about it. "Oops, I was off doing something else and couldn't be there." Lame. Also, I am not sufficiently Japanified to understand what was so funny/mockworthy about Araragi using the -chan for his sisters? Wouldn't that be standard for an older sibling to do?
Shinbo got to indulge his fetish for lolipires to the max. I'm sure he must have been ... drained ... by the experience. |

I think they are trying to portray her as overconfident and detached because of how smart she is. |

Actually, come to think of it, I prefer the term vampoli to lolipire.

I thought he seemed surprised to see her, so I don't think he was particularly trying to call her. |

It's more how he was talking to them and than how he thought of them. He speaks to them like "I'll ask once more bigger little sister". But when he talked to Tsubasa he let his guard down was calling them Karen-chan etc, in other words that how he thinks about them but when talking to them he puts up this front. Also shown when he was talking to Shinobu. "The problem is how to get her... Well I suppose there's no point in faking this in front of you.. Karen-chan. |

Ah, so when he talks directly to them, he comes across as more formal and distant (perhaps to seem like he has more authority), but the use of -chan when they are not around shows that he feels more warmly to them than he lets on? Okay, that make seems to make sense, thank you!
