I don't know if anyone else has heard about this, but the producer of Schindler's List has bought the Hollywood rights to my favorite anime, the one that got me into anime, Lupin the 3rd. But who would play the characters? No actor has ever had a Jigen like mustache, and a live-action Zenigata would just be creepy. If Monica Bellucci (Pershephone from Matrix Reloaded) played Fujiko, though, I'd go see it twice. Oh yeah, the guy that has the rights to the movie signed a deal with Monkey Punch that says that Lupin, Jigen, Fujiko, Goemon, & Zenigata must all be in the movie, which is being pitched as a franchise, but this Hollywoodian plans on changing the story to make it suitable for the big screen.

Man, why must everybody always assume the worst about these sorts of things?
I mean, what would they really have to change about Lupin, anyway? I mean, GEE, it's not like there has never been an oversexed, overconfident playboy character in Hollywood films BEFORE...
I, for one, am looking forward to it. Of all the anime to live-action announcements as of late, Lupin is probably the least risky; it won't require a rediculous amount of special effects, it can be made cheaply and quickly, and the only thing I can possibly think of that could really sink this project is through some unfortunate casting decisions.
Yes, there was a Japanese live-action Lupin film. From all reports, it is said to be awful.

I also think Lupin 3rd would make a good transition to the big screen.
Lupin III - Bruce Cambell
Fujiko - Shannon Elizabeth or Kelly Brooks
Jigen - Clancy Brown
Goemon - not sure
Zenigata - R. Lee Ermy

Bruce Campbell would make a good Lupin... but sadly, he is not a big box office name, so the chances of him being cast aren't very high. He sure does deserve a starring role in a big name film though. He is one of my favorite actors.

Lupin? sorry, Jim Carrey is a shoe-in for a movie role. He's got the umph of isanity to fit the part.

Actually Jim Carrey was my second choice to play Lupin for the same reasons that Lupin 333 mentioned. I am a big Bruce Cambell fan as well.
Oh well he could still play Jigen.

I won't argue Bruce as a good choice, he has excellent ability but i just got this notion that Carrey would get the billing.

That's OK, I don't see Lupin as a big box office title. Popular, sure, but not exceptionally so. I do like the idea of Bruce Capbell in the movie, but not as Lupin, Bruce is too monotone. He would however make a PERFECT villian for the movie. Hmm, actually he'd make a fairly good Jigen too. Of course I think Jim Carrey would be the best Lupin, he's got the voice, the tallent, and the flexablility. And yes, R. Lee would be a perfect Zenigata, good call! His age may be catching up to him but he's still got the look and personality, they'd just have to drop the whole Zenigata-looks-like-Lupin thing, but that'd be forgivable.

I can't figure this one out. With as much as Monkey Punch has complained over the years about Castle of Cagliostro, he then turns around and signs his characters over to Hollywood. It just doesn't make sense.
