I'm curious, have these been translated? A good read? Basically, anyone have any experience at all? It's fairly impossible to find anything on this subject.

Better yet, how does it compare to the animation series?

Just rented the first two volumes (月の影、影の海), which correspond anime eps 1-13. More to follow.

Great news, tell me what you think about it when you feel like it. I'm interested in hearing what you have to say about it.

The books, unfortunatley, have not been translated. You can find semi-complete translations online, and as far as I know, there's some pretty key differences from the anime and the books. For example, talking about 月の影、影の海, Sugimoto and Asano don't accompany Youko to the Twelve Kingdoms. They're added into the anime to make her inner conflict easier to understand and display.

I would like to read them too, since the anime seemed just the tip of the iceberg, but I remember seeing an article on this site that at a convention one of the manga companies said they had no plans to publish the Twelve Kingdoms novels at this time. I think it's just a matter of time. The other question is how good will the translation be? Does any company own the rights to the novels already?

Shouldn't this be in the manga forums?

I'd agree, if a manga actually existed that is.

Well...perhaps this would be better off in the manga forum. But we're talking about books. You know, lots of words, no pictures...;)
