Maaya Sakamoto is so darn cute. Thank you for doing this interview! I'm incredibly tickled that she likes Sarah McLachlan. :D I can't wait to hear her solo stuff though. Even though I absolutely adore Yoko Kanno, there's nothing wrong with trying new things. I wouldn't be surprised if they still do stuff together in the future too.

I love Maaya Sakamoto, and yes, good interview! I just hope she doesn't fade into obscurity any time too soon, or doesn't refuse to ever work with Kanno again.

Does anyone have any more info (or links) on why Sakamoto and Kanno have split? It just seems like a bad move to me; I've always thought Sakamoto's beautiful voice and Kanno's amazing compositions were the perfect pair. So sad :(

Very nice interview. I was able to attend her concert during Afest here in Dallas, and see the voice actor panel for which she was a guest in. She is an incredibly sweet woman. and she seems very open with her audience. I'm glad I was able to hear her in concert and be able to hear at the panel...just wish I could have gotten an audtograph

You should have come to her panel on Monday. She was talking about how there was a huge cochroach in her hotel room and they had to call hotel security to kill it.

They didn't "split", according to the interview, Ms. Sakamoto wanted to try something new with different people.

Hmmm... right now I'm working on an album that doesn't involve Ms. Kanno. Different people, different musicians—that in itself is very different for me. Right now I just want to be able to meet more musicians and open myself up to those new experiences and create something refreshing. |
She will probably be with Kanno more, but it seems like she wants to experiment with different musicians. Opening up more approaches towards music.

That's hillarious! I didn't go monday because I was COMPLETLY tired from the 3 pervious days, but I wish I could have heard that. Where you there for the concert? Wasn't it great when we start cheering her back and she did one last song?

I see why she would want to branch out. You don't want to be associated with someone else forever. Her newest song "Loop" for Tsubasa Chronicles is just as pretty, if not more so than "Yakusoku wa Iranai " from Escaflone. It dosen't matter nessicarly matter WHO composes it, but how the song sounds when she sings it. It's a good thing that she's trying to establish herself away from Yoko Kanno (I'm not saying she's a bdad composer. She's my second fav next to Yuki Kajiura)
