It's a nice read, but I think that they try to deduct too much out of a single survey. But it's a nice excuse to read up some information on manga that I've never heard about (such as the nr.1 Banana Fish, which I've read nothing about before).

It's hardly comprehensive, since the survey is clearly not balanced. The disproportion of female to male respondents, for instance, is enough to render it openly biased. It's interesting reading, though.

No need to be rude. Besides, Ulthrion is not from the U.S., so I don't know if Banana Fish has been licensed in the Netherlands. |

I didn't take it as rude. Anyway, my manga knowledge is pretty much limited to what I see in my regular store, since there are only very few places that actually sell manga here.
In any case, it seems that the list is quite different from what the top 50 list here on ANN is (Bayesian estimate). Only one of the top 5 (the rose of versailles) is in the top 50 here. Is that because of the difference in interest between japanese and americans, because of what is licenced, or because of some other reason? My guess is that, like abunai said, the large amount of female voters on that survey has an influence (although I don't know how the male/female ratio of the votes on ANN is), but the difference still looks quite big to me to only blame it on that. Of course, it could just as well be a coincidence because the comic link list is a one-time survey (as opposed to the listing here which can continually change). Farseer Ulthrion |
