I always loved Lion King, and if it was plagarized from an Osamu Tezuka work (which it sounds like) then I'd easily give the original a purchase and a viewing.

Are there any other details on the Kimba release? Specifically, will it have the Japanese version, or willl it be the english dub only like the Rhino release?

It's from TRSI, of course it will have the original japanese version.

The Rhino Kimba boxset says "Released under exclusive licence by The Right Stuf International, Inc." in the copyright text. So it's entirely possible that it will be English only...

I'd say that the only way the new release would be dub only is if TRSI was unable to get the rights to the Japanese audio track, otherwise you can probably expect to see it on thier release

I was under the impression that it already came out. I guess not.

What is RightStuf going to do about the episodes listed on the front of the page? They are missing, correct?

It's dub-only, cus NBC burned the original prints, since the Japanese didn't want them, at least according to an Akadot interview a few years ago with Fred Ladd.

With the way anime and manga has been getting released in this country the last few years, I dubbed only release would not suprise me at all.

The Kimba set is basically a dubbed-only release, because of the editing that went into making the American version (can't sync up the English soundtrack without cutting out the same bits that were cut out for the English version).

Any info I get will also be posted on my site, on the News page:
http://www.kimbawlion.com/snoo.htm . Right now I have a bit of info there from Right Stuf about their Kimba box including DVD extras.

Presumably that "original Japanese version of episode 1" will be subtitled; that's never been done before. The first Kimba episode underwent the most changes in editing: resequencing of a major portion of the episode plus a couple of changes to plot elements.

The video quality is said to surpass any previous Kimba release, and if all the materials I submitted were used, several of these episodes never _sounded_ better before, not even in the original 16mm films released to TV stations.

Hahaha. Yeeeeeeeeeeeees! At Laaaaaaaaaaaaaast! (sorry, Jafar moment there).

I've been waiting for a long time for someone to release uncut versions of these shows. (Or at least I hope they're uncut). I also hope Astro Boy is in its original Black and White.

however, in the right stuf panal report, it plainly says

Quote:
In both cases, TRSI will be restoring whatever masters are available, and plans to release both shows uncut, with the full original Japanese dialogue.

I Just hope this is the case.

I was there, and the rep specifically said that the first episode would have an uncut Japanese version. Nobody asked about the rest, and he never said, or even implied, that the whole series would be bilingual.

Can't recall what was said about Astroboy.

YES YES YES!!! Screw 'Rhino Records'!!!

I figured that they would. I mean TRSI from what I know did hold the rights to the titles on VHS. But later on 'RR' held the rights to 'Kimba' on DVD. They only released up to ep. 26. They never released the rest of the series. Fans had been putting in reviews on 'Amazon' demanding the rest of the serise. I'm sure they bugged 'RR' as well. I even took the initiative to send an e-mail to them asking if they were still working on this title. Twice I wrote and received no reply. Eventually, I just chalked it up. I later noticed that while the title was still up on 'Amazon' for order 'RR' didn't have it listed on their site anymore. Meaning that they were no longer releasing the title. Which also means the license had expired and was up for grabs. 'TSRI', which at the time when I e-mailed them, stated that if the license were to expire then they may pick it up so that it can be released on DVD. Hurray!!

I'm very pleased at this. Mainly due to the fact that I had wanted to get both titles added to our video collection so that students can view it as a reference media and entertainment. Since this is an art college and "anime" has been intergrated into animation history upon the various courses taken here.

I wish that more vintage movie titles by 'Tezuka' and other manga-ka like 'Shotaro Ishimori' could be released here. Even though there is a new 'Phoenix' series that was produced last year, 2004 (and has now been licensed and will be released by 'Media Blasters) there are still 'Phoenix' movies that are closer to the manga that have never been seen. They should have had those at the 'MoMA' exhibit as well. But they were released some time ago on DVD in Japan but have been discontinued. Then there is the first 'Kimba/Leo' movie. Not the 1996 version we got. Old 'Astro Boy' is worth a look as well as 'Cyborg 009' either the original B+W series or 60/70's color version. We also need those manga titles released as well. 'Jungle Emperor Leo' aka 'Kimba' and the rest of the 'Phoenix' series. Smile
