Let's see if we can sum up this column:
Pictures of cute J-pop singers? Very yes. Shirts you'd only wear in Japan to escape scorn? Ouch! Koda Kumi? Oh VERY yes. Nana Katase? Get this man some pepperspray! Cool reviews, keep up the sacred work. (Edit) Oh and forgot: Benny K: It's like Flintstones vitamin chews. Dibs on purple Wilma. |

Glad you like it.
The cover of their last album is a lot better. |

I personaly find Koda Kumi's voice too loud. I also find that she makes a whiny noise sometimes. It's a very unique singing voice, but one I find all too annoying.

I'm strongly reminded of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds for some reason... |

Speaking of Kumi Koda, one song in particular of hers I really like is "COME WITH ME."
Does anyone one know what she's singing in the background? I think it's: To the sun of raves, soakin' up the sun~ Get your shoes on~ I like this song for it's upbeat style. It also gives me somewhat of a retro pop feel with a combination of modern J-Pop. And I agree her voice is unique. Having been in a school choir for about 8 years, I've learned how to tell real singers apart from those who just wail. It's all in the diaphragm. And also, I've seen a few sites that compare her voice to Namie Amuro's. But from what I've heard, I can easily tell them apart. I think Koda said something about listening to a lot of Amuro's music as she was growing up, but I don't know. I hardly keep up with the J-Music scene as much as I'd like to . |

Great reviews, keep up the good work.
And I think it's pretty sad that this is pretty much the only site now where you can find the reviews of the latest up to date singles or j-music in English on the web. There used to be J-fan Jpop, but they stopped reviewing the latest singles and music long ago. So it's pretty cool hearing opinions about the latest jmusic in English. |

It's "rays," not "raves."
Even I was hit with that impression, and I love Namie to death. It's not that their voices are alike, they just share a certain quality... argh, can't put it into words :\ |

, thanks. At least I got the "soakin' up the sun" part right. I thought I totally screwed that part up. I find it kind of hard do decipher when these singers are saying stuff in English or Engrish sometimes .
I think I know what you mean now. I was listening to "Chase," and there was a part where Koda started scat singing/rapping. Her style sounded very similar to another Amuro song I once heard. It wasn't quite the same singing voice, but the way she sang it was nearly identical. |

Its funny, i always get late to the lastest trends. Right now Koda Kumi is hot among the fandom and i just can´t get myself into her music.
I like her in Real Emotion, I like her in the Cutey Honey Theme, and i sort of like her in Crazy for You and Hands (but she showed too much skin for my taste). She is pretty, no, she is hot... but for some reason i find girls like Ayu or Tomiko Van more appealing than her. I will give a try to this new single... perhaps i can enjoy it. |

I found the shirt she sold at Kamikazecon to be quite amusing, "Smack this booty up..." (front) "all over your face" (back). |

How come you never review Japanese rock music?

Well, although Japanese stars don't always sell them as merchandise, more than just a few celebs have been known to sport slightly questionable material on their clothing. BoA anyone? For her promotion of the single "Rock With You", meaning on all her live TV performances which are viewed by usually around 15-16% of tv viewers on average, she wore a lovely shirt that said "F***" or something to that effect, and there was no blur! Either Japanese celebs don't know what it means and just assume it's cool because it's in English, or they think the Japanese public is too dumb to understand it anyway, rendering it harmless. Or Japan has much less stringent censorship laws and doesn't fine for popping a boob or maybe even the occasional swear word here and there in front of national audiences. Then again, look at the stuff that they're allowing the kids to see in anime daily. The Japanese are so much cooler in that respect..
