There really isn't a whole lot to prove that the kiddie porn would prevent it either. On top of that, 90% sounds like a rather made up statistic here. There is a lot of hentai out there and yes sometimes teenage sex is involved, but I wouldn't go as far to say that 90% of it depicts minors having sex. |

But how will you define the age of a non-existant person? |

I've been following the news about this and if the guy violated his parole by surfing for pornographic anime which he wasn't supposed to do AT ALL, then I guess it's back to the prison cell for him.
He should have thought about it at first and he knew that he was in still on parole yet he did something such as this. I guess he was a DUMBASS to do such. Now, that's done. As for my comment if pornographic anime/manga/animation should be banned in America, Canada or in any or country/area, all I can say is that I don't have much anything to say about it. Perhaps, I think that it may not be the anime/manga porn that is directly illegal but rather............ more of the result as or reading the pornographic material. It may not be illegal to possess such but I think it all hands down what the person will do/becomes as a result of reading such. For example, reading lolicon may not be totally wrong BUT becoming a sex offender/phedophile/child molester because of is a criminal offense. Perhaps it all leads to the word "SELF CONTROL". If the person is just there to read (perhaps for personal entertainment), then it may not be considered as illegal BUT if the person shows the material in front of children or even becomes a sex addict as result, then you know what that is. I do know stuff like this is sick and disgusting and I agree with this. But can we say that everyone who buys these stuff are already considered sex offenders and the like????? So what I maybe trying to say here is that if it isn't illegal to possess these animated porn material, then perhaps becoming a CHILD RAPIST, because of the obsession which leads to madness, is a crime that was committed and is illegal. Hmm.... so I guess people should that stuff like these at their own risk and take note of "SELF CONTROL". Well, with that said, I don't know what your laws are in North America (US and Canada) but here in my country (the Philippines), no one even cares if these are illegal or not. Well, I've been to many Japanese restaurants here in the country and a some of these restaurants carry these Porn Manga books/magazines and they usually stack them on their magazine racks. The scary part though is what if someone who isn't allowed to read (teenagers or even young kids) such material accidentally picks up stuff like these on the restaurants magazine rack not knowing that it's actually japanese porn manga or even real Japanese pornography????? (OH NO, patay sila diyan!) |

To think that my old World History 2 Teacher critisized the U.S. for not being tolerant enough of stuff. ![]() I mean... maybe we aren't in the areas we should be, and are in the areas that need it less. I'm still kinda irked by this. Life?! So you're pratically ending the guy's civil (probably wasn't so civil though) life, through something non lethal to anyone? Gah. |

Sounds about right. While technically, he's been tried for a parole violation, it seems sketchy. Someone trying to accomplish something that perhaps shouldn't be done.
With that said, this is the US, after all. In modern US society, we don't want any inclinations towards children and sex to be harbored. The age of consent here is 18, and any adult wanting to have sex with a minor should be thrown in prison (according to US law). Regardless of whether or not we agree with this, it is STILL the law here, and should be followed as other laws should be. Then comes the issue of virtual child pornography, in this case, lolicon. While it's true that no child is being harmed in this scenario, if something like this is allowed, it would be fostering feelings of sexual conduct towards minors. The majority of people in the US don't want that. But if people have these feelings, isn't virtual child pornography a better way to act them out? I think so. If we're to live in a mature society, we need to accept that sometimes we will not agree with the way a certain person feels about things. Even then, it's not that simple. Medical studies have concluded that when a person's sexual inclinations are fostered in that way, they are likely to continue down the path of taking action on their leanings towards sex with children. Instead of getting those feelings out, they're just making it worse. So while having virtual child pornography is "better" then what might happen, it's not truly the solution. It won't help, it will only hurt. So if we accept US law as a standard for everyone that lives in the US, the majority of people here would agree, virtual child pornography has no place here, and should be banned. I don't think freedom of speech really applies here, because having it in effect for this situation would interfere with other laws currently in place. Surely you can't believe that the Founding Fathers really had child pornography in mind when instigating freedom of speech. All of this, is just how I feel about the subject. Just my opinion, you're more than welcome to disagree. Just keep in mind, you should put it in the proper context of US law, since that's where the situation is happening. How you feel about US law should have very little to do with making valid points on the subject. |

I once read an article about a teacher being arrested for writing something in his journal/diary about his sexual thoughts on some of his underage students. I think the police officers were legally searching his house for something and that was the only thing they could find that was questionable. I don't think the teacher had any criminal record. I haven't really followed up on this story and I don't remember any more details, but I thought it was interesting. Imagine getting arrested for writing your thoughts out on paper or drawing a picture of something "obscene." That's just wonderful.
I'm sure that there was a lot of stuff not on their mind since the Founding Fathers created a Constitution over 2 centuries ago. I don't think that they would have imagined something like the Internet would have risen up and become a forum for free speech. |

First off a teacher writing about sexual fantasies about his student is a little different than just free speech. He was writing about actual people he was in close contact with. I can see this a developing into a dangerous situation. Our founding fathers were freaking married to like 14 year oolds! Hello! Back then girls would have kids as soon as they were ready to bear children. Child laws only came under par this century. Freedom of speech applies in this case cause its a fictional story about fictional characters. PMCRW |

Ohhh, I've been looking for that again! That list is hysterical. Really shows how Customs Canada's "regulations" are totally arbitrary and serves no purpose other than spreading paranoia among importers.
