This is one of the best manga I have read yet, and to think I wasnt ever going to buy it. Their is one thing that bothers me about this manga, their are 20 volumes of this manga and they are spaced months apart for reliece.
If anyone else reads this manga, feels the same way, or has any complants about other manga, please reply.

It's my favourite manga as well (atm, I've not read as much as some others here ). one issue every 2 or 3 months is the release speed here I believe so that's kind of crappy. But then again, it's worth the waiting. Fortunately there are enough other good manga's to keep me occupied in the meantime.
I believe that there was a discussion about Angel Sanctuary a while back, and some were complaining about white dots (or something .. blank faces I believe). They haven't really bothered me too much so far though.
Currently I'm at volume 5 (although I expect vol.6 to be waiting for me at the store), and I love where the story is going now. So far there was only 1 occasion where I thought that it was on the edge of degenerating into too much humor (which isn't really appropriate for this manga), but in the end, the story continued just in time to make it all enjoyable.
So yes, I kind of share your vision on Angel Sanctuary.

Viz is known to be absolutely horrible with release dates, but I personally think they're actually doing a pretty good job with releasing the Angel Sanctuary books. They've been releasing them at a pretty constant rate of 1 book every two months (the first 7 have been released in the past year), a pace which, while not being not greatly fast, is still pretty good in my opinion.
Of course, I've already read the entire series (which is my favorite manga incidentally) and am only re-collecting the English versions now, so my situation is a little different. Being an extremely impatient person myself, I prefer to read a series straight through and can undoubtedly emphasize with you. If you're willing to, you could always buy the tankoubon in Japanese (or any of the other languages in which AS has been published) and find translations online. I know it's not quite the same as reading the manga in English, but it's always an option.

I know I'm asking for my eyes to be clawed out by the fangirls, but can someone please explain to be the appeal of AS? I went into the first two volumes very enthusiastic, as I heard great things about its dark themes and deep characters, but came away underwhelmed. While there was indeed an abundace of darkness, I felt it was executed in a rather boring way that had been done before. Not that I think it's horrible, but I just wasn't overwhelmingly impressed, as I was expecting something much deeper and better executed. I've heard it improves, and if so, could someone give a explanation of the improvements?

Heh, I have no plans to claw out your eyes unless you call me a fangirl. Anyhow, I'm not really stellar at convincing others of a the worth of a series (on the contrary, my lousy attempts often convince others not to read it), but I'll give it a shot anyway. Admittedly, the premise of Angel Sanctuary starts off in a typical "boy must save the world" way, and some scenes are executed a bit shoddily. Still, I'm a sucker for the idea of fallen angels and the relationship between Setsuna and Sara had me hooked, so I enthusiastically continued the series. And yes, it does improve. Greatly. Before I knew it, I was enamoured with the characters, the writing, and the artwork. However, there really is no "turning point" in which AS changed from being a promising story with good artwork into one of the most wonderfully complex manga I've ever read. If I had to pinpoint a volume for said turning point, I'd choose volume 8 (specifically after Sara wakes up in Gabriel's body), but more than anything it's a gradual improvement as the story continues to grow. Characters who may seem flat in the beginning are almost never as they first appear, with Yuki skillfully making them multi-faceted. The story likewise is elaborately woven with a perfect balance of complex relationships, intrigue, and action, and though the subject matter can be rather weighty, the story is never bogged down by this fact. Angel Sanctuary undoubtedly has its overly dramatic moments, but more often I find that it to be subtlely moving; the ostensible thematic complexities are, in essence, beautifully simple. The core of the story is the triumph of humanity over adversity, epitomized in both the central relationship and in the struggle against Heaven's tyranny.
Bear in mind that Angel Sanctuary is not for everyone (sorry for the cliché). Also, I'm obviously biased toward the series, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

No accusation intended. Thanks for the description. I don't know if I want to make the commitment yet (hopefully I can convince a friend to buy it), but at least I know it does improve, as well as some of the central themes. Some of my favorite series started slow (Monster), or took time for the author to inject depth and substance (Blade of the Immortal), so I haven't writen it off yet.
