Media blaster put out one great package. Just receive my Otogi Zoshi (original title: Otogizoushi?) LE from DDD and it was cheap. The first thing I notice about the box is the great artwork and it's solidly built. Both side of the box has a great piece that almost compliments each other because they contrast. One of the side being dark, while the other side is light.

When I open the shrink wrap, I was surprise that the paper wasn't glossy. All of my anime artbox has glossy paper, but this one is not glossy. The paper used felt rough and was not smooth or shiny. I actually like it, as it made the art look like a canvas painting. The box comes with volume 1 and has room to hold the other 5 DVD (6 DVD total).

The T-shirt that came with box is your typical cotton shirt with an art imprinted. Nothing special, but a nice bonus indeed. The size is XL, but it didn’t' feel quite as huge as the GTO.

The DVD cover was pretty nice too.

I think they use some foil technique as the image kind of leap out at you. Included was a seperate disc for extra. You're getting 2 DVD. As for the show's content itself, I have yet to view it because I'm waiting for my 600watt home theater system to arrive tomorrow before, but from what people have said, the first ark was great, the second ark was decent. The DVD contain 5 episode. 5 Episode/Tshirt/Artbox for 20 buck, now that's a good deal. Get it while the DDD stilll has the misprice up.

I am some what confused; which can happen often. Is the box a Limited edition? It seems to me that it is not. I havebt found it anywhere where it said it was a LE.

I got mine yesterday, and it's a great item. I agree that whatever material they used to cover the box is much better than the regular paper most companies use.

The shirt is also nice and white, which means I won't have to worry so much about lint Anime catgrin.

And as for the DVD, it's a Good production in itself. I'm not all that familiar with the Heian period, but after watching that lecture extra on the 2nd disc, it really helped me understand that time period a little better.

The story was also pretty good for a first volume. It didn't leave me bored or sleepy and I think I'm starting to get a feel for some of the characters.

The music is Excellent. I really like the intro song and how well it goes with the animation. The background music for the series is very fitting also, using a wide array of traditional Japanese instruments to fit the actual time setting, giving the whole series a more authentic feel.

The dubbing is good for the most part. I like how they casted Abe Lasser as Abe no Seimei (that first one is "Abe" as in "Gabriel," not the Japanese Abe Razz). And Hikaru's dub voice is surprisingly similar to her Japanese counterpart.

The only problem I have is she sounds more like she's just rasping her voice instead trying to sound like a guy (for which I will not reveal why, you'll find out in the first episode, though Wink).

And the only other complaint is that I can't say I'm too thrilled with Lex Lang playing Mansairaku. This is the 2nd time I've heard him try to dub over Shinichiro Miki. I mean, his voice is low enough, but it's not quite as soft and bishounen-esque as Miki-san's. Oh well, at least it's not as bad as his Sannosuke.

Oh, and I really like the art too. The animation itself isn't all that fluid, but when things are standing still, they're a joy to look at (at least the characters are). Good use of colors, not too bright, not too dark.

Overall, this first DVD is well worth the $20.98 I paid for at Deep Discount DVD. It's an intriguing story with good music, dubbing, and a nifty episode count. I'm glad it'll only be six volumes Anime smile.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that there is one minor glitch in the DVD. It occurs during the ending credits in the Japanese 5.1 track, where the sound is unevenly divided into the front and rear speakers, making it sound like the song is being played simultaneously, but out of synch. I'm not sure if it's just me, but that's the only problem I've noticed. I'll try to contact Media Blasters and ask them about it.
