Sega will never hear the end of this one.

They keep saying No, But I am still going to do whatever I can to get this game (in an understandable way)

Sega, we don't need it to be dubbed just like the Yakuza games. You initially said no to those as well. I just don't get it!

This series is amazing and I cannot understand why we can't get quality Japanese games like this while NISA and Atlus can get us obscure and very average games all the time.

I NEED this game. I am a completionist. Valkyria Chronicles will always be one of my favorite and most innovative games. I have even imported merchandise based on the games and anime to show my support.

As expected. Gamers just aren't buying. Not to their tastes.

More like, "PSP gamers just aren't buying". Being a highly pirated system, I have a feeling it has something to do with it. Yes, DSs have R4 cards and the like, but from what I hear it's MUCH easier to hack a PSP. Most people that own PSPs know how to do it.

Of course, the move from PS3 - PSP didn't help with the whole situation...

Either way, this is sad Sad This is an example of not buying = no sequel possibility to come out in english. Unlike anime, if a game doesn't get licensed, it takes forever for fan translations to come out.

Pretty much both the long and short of it right here. Valkyria Chronicles, to my understanding, sold extremely well in the US market, but then, instead of keeping that market open, Sega opted to develop VC2 as a PSP title, instantly dooming any hope of being successful overseas.

Do Japanese developers just not understand that portable titles don't do well overseas? I don't know. But Sega took one of the strongest potential franchises in recent history and euthanized it with the decision to make VC2 for the PSP, and further doomed it with a 3rd installment that is also only on the PSP.

Of course, it doesn't help that VC2 wasn't really all that good.

I don't know anything about this series (besides it being a RPG), but why in the world did SEGA turn it from a PS3 series to a PSP series? Never heard of a company who makes a game on console, but release the sequel(s) on handhelds...

*sigh*

I was half-expecting it after PSP2i wasn't showing up, but still...

We can only hope that they at least consider releasing it as a PSP Remaster title in the future for the PS3 or even the Vita, and bundle it with VC2 while they're at it...

And it really was inexplicable why they transferred a new and perfectly good home console IP to the not-so-profitable handheld market. The charming watercolour-styled graphics were one of the selling points of VC1, and you just can't reproduce that properly on the PSP...

O-O~

"The game that was made as a response to the overt change of tone from VC 2 won't get released because VC2 did badly because of the overt change of tone that drove people off"

Marketing, freaking, Genius.

That's because they released the game on the wrong platform. The original was a PS3 title. The second should have followed up with a PS3 title, not a PSP title.

The sales demographics in Japan and the USA are two different markets.

Agreed. I never quite understood why you would follow up a game that can be played on a 50" screen with (720 or 1080) resolution with a second game that is played on a PSP-sized screen. It just boggles the mind.

Really a shame.

I bought both the first two games and really enjoyed both. Even though VC2 should have been a PS3 title and probably has the absolute worst writing of any video game I've ever played in my life (VC1's was pretty painful to begin with but VC2 was just /killmenow), it is still great game where it counts: the gameplay.

Pretty much this, yeah. Though, as noted, I know the move to PSP also didn't help.

Edit: Neogaf thread for more discussion.

I wasn't able to get the second one because I never owned a PSP until 2 years ago, and even today it has no use, so I just wasted my money on it. I would gladly have bought it's followup had it came on the PS3. Handheld devices just really aren't my thing anymore, unless the PSVita turns out to be amazing, got my eye on Gravity Daze.

I bought the 1st game and it was amazing. I bought the 2nd game and it was very dissapointing. I heard the 3rd one is amazing, but now it will never find its way to U.S./European PSPs? That sucks.
It would be great if they release it on the Vita, but I hope they release it as a physical copy. Or better yet, why not make a PS3 HD remake of it. I bet it will be a winner both here and in Japan.

You could not have said it any better.

There was absolutely no way that the breathtaking, jaw dropping graphics done with the CANVAS engine can be replicated on a tiny screen.

I still remember what they said about moving it from the PlayStation 3 to PlayStation Portable. Here is what the producer, Shuntaro Tanaka, said on the move.

It was in order "to allow a broader spectrum of users to discover and enjoy what makes Valkyria special."
article

Too bad everyone found out about it on the PlayStation 3 in the first place.

Damn that sucks.

VC2 was a day one purchase for me and I told all my buddy gamers about how great a series it was, but I guess it wasn't enough. Sad
