Hmmm...there's probably more Getter Robo than Gatchaman in Gekigangar. I mean, don't those pilots look familiar?

Interestingly, the more recent dub of the film still mis-accents the names. The more things change, the more they stay the same, I guess. It is a great show though. My only problem with it was that some elements felt rushed in the last episode. It's been awhile though.

I second that.
[quote="Haiseikoh 1973"] Of course, I got the 3 DVD box for $11, so I can't complain Yes, this is one of those shows you might want to baptize outsiders with. It has enough elements of American sci-fi with the typical giant robot stuff. |

Plus, who can deny that Ruri brings back the single word retort we all love, into full bloom.
Btw, which mecha series WAS the review referring to? I'm thinking Eva, but I'm not so sure, because Nadesico does deliver a comeback to Eva, macross, and gundam, but WHICH is it referring to (since gundam and macross both had some new stuff done in the mid-90's, iirc)? |

That looks suspiciously like a bootleg. And if you say, "No way, it's not a bootleg, it's the imported box set," then I know it's a bootleg and not a legitimate import. |

I'm fairly sure that it was a comeback to Eva, since Eva finished in 1996, the same year Nadesico started. Before I even knew that Nadesico was a response to Eva, I could tell its influence just by looking at Ruri, who reminded me of a more smart-mouthed Rei the moment I saw her. |

Wrong. It's from one of the third parties on amazon. It was originally $41 but I got a $30 online gift certificate for my birthday. Now if they could only release that OVA.... |

Umm... there is no 3 disc Nadesico box. If it contains the whole series, then you have to know it's a boot. The complete collection is 6 discs. That notwithstanding.. there is still no such thing as a 3 disc Nadesico box. |

Considering the age of the anime, and the amount of money that I paid for the set ($55 at AAFES) I am quite pleased with it, and there are worse ways to spend and afternoon. |

I actually like the dub a lot and as for using the correct names I couldnt care less. It didn't ruin the whole series for me and hopefully for most others. As for Ruri I prefer the dub version, the Japanese girl I found rather annoying. The only thing that did ruin the series was the movie which I really didn't like at all.
C- Overall an okay review, but I disagree on many of the points and gradings. |

If by consistency you mean the bad dubbing, then I guess they did a good job, though I haven't seen the movie at all yet. I don't know why it is, but all of ADV's dubs just seem to lack something for me. Whether it's the casting, the scripting, the acting, or the bad pronunciations, or all 4, I just can never bring myself to sit there and call the whole thing "good" or even decent. I do hear a few of the more minor roles do a pretty good job at times, but overall, it's usually the main characters I can't stand. Aaa~~nyway, good review Mr. Santos, keep it up! EDIT: Corrected spelling (I hope). Last edited by Tony K. on Sat Jan 08, 2005 4:20 am; edited 1 time in total |

Almost 100% of those third party sellers on Amazon are selling bootleg anime DVDs. |

My understanding is that there is a OVA or video game that explains what the events were that led up to the movie, but if it were not for the names of the characters and the name on the DVD I never would have thought that is was from the same series. There was just too much of a shift in the personalities of the characters for it to feel the same. spoiler[I mean Akito going through all of that trouble to find Yurika and then not hanging around to say "Hello" - what was up with that?] |

And even the ones who are somewhat legit sometimesd don't know that what they're selling is a bootleg (or decline to tell you even when you ask), resulting in an unintentional bootleg purchase (like my old Eva collection). |
