I've temporarily disabled the signatures in the forums, and I'd like to get your opinions. Like it? hate it? Should they come back? Stay gone? Personally, I think it makes the forum a lot cleaner.

The avatar is enough for me.

Ahhhh, I miss my sig. Just when I was going to update it. Won't it be easier to limit the number of lines or characters.

Count me as glad signatures are gone.
I'm just no fun.

I've never used a sig, so it doesn't bother me

I'm on the fence. Some people abuse sigs and have HUGE pictures or something. However, I just had a banner for my anime convention, so in a way, I'm losing advertising.....

well...i like 'em. all i put was a quote thingy, so it wasn't a big to-do for me. maybe you could bring them back, limit the space, and not be able to use pics?

Personnally, I have no problem with it. However, I agree with Hotaru and that maybe there should be a limit on sig lengths if they are ever brought back.

I should point out that our sigs and our sig policy was certainly better than some other forums...

I like it this way; the site loads faster and I always found it silly that some people's sigs were longer than their posts.

I like the sigs, they tell you more about the persons personality, but people do abuse them. I think it would be better to simply limit the numer of spaces or lines, but whatever, they are only sigs. was going to put up a new sig but guess I can't now.
"You sent me up a river, Joan!"
"But I wanted my heart to be the paddel, Abe!"
"And you slapped me in the face with that paddel! I wear my heart on my sleeve, so when I went to wipe my face off I got heart all over it."
Yea....that one was too long...

What about the possibility of 4-lines of text-only signatures? A lot of forums use that sorta thing.
plus since phpbb's open source we could theoretically do some type of throttle for one-liners... ("if content length is less than 250 characters, disable signature, then submit as usual.")

I don't mind not having sigs, but wouldn't it be better just to have it regulated instead.

That sounds very reasonable, but wouldnt you want to disable the sig if content (of the message I assume) is MORE than 250? As to prevent slow loads and excess space consumption, of course.

I was happy when I finally got back and was able to have a sig... so I made a nice small banner sig especially for ANN.... I think it adds more insight and character to a poster, or they can advertise other boards and/or websites in that space... I really don't like the "no-sig" policy, there is no reason why they should not be allowed. Restrictions- YES, but not completely gone... and if the image is small enough, it should not matter... even for those of you with 56k, if the image is like 60x100, that is TINY... it would load in a second...
