America censors manga as well, so I dunno if preaching to the US is going to help much on the Tokyo situation.

Lupe speaks TRUTH! I dont get the censoring of ANYTHING to tell the truth. If for some reason you are offended by something (and I see no reason for creativity to offend anyone), simply DONT FREKIN READ/WATCH/View it! Off Topic but the only thing that should be censored isn't, (mainly speaking about here in the US) and that's racism. The very word means hate or rather a superiority complex based on the color of your skin, or what area you live in. And we have many idiots/children (although the kids dont know any better) here that think that words spoken/written are true. There was no reason why Japan should have allowed such a fucked-up law to pass. ([Such comments are uncalled for]) Censoring racism? No, it must NOT be censored. If you shut racists up, you're no better than they are. Also, George Carlin was right about what we consider racial slurs--those words are completely meaningless by themselves. It's the context that makes them good or bad. |

American censorship in manga is not as bad as it used to be, if the authors wanted to, they could do bi anual weekly updates on a website with their material and charge x amount for people to buy a digital copy for e-readers or other things. There are still loop holes left, don't think this will slow them down, and if some of the creators are smart do some bi lingual creations as well to make a profit in engilsh speaking countries as well.

Oh wait, didn't know politicians did acting classes as their daily regiment. The bill won't do anything at all but it will motivate anime & manga push further to break more barriers and give Ishihara hell. |

Recognizing the events that took place as a piece of the puzzle on the road to a better world is the extent to which there is reasonable allowance freedom of expression for racism, however. The statement "America should have conquered them outright after WW2." goes way beyond that, which isn't about expression it's about an actual tendency or desire to commit hate upon another group. The excuse hate is just another form of expression should not be lumped in with the justification for preserving the right to expression. |

Haha, The Birth of a Nation! The film was a huge commercial success, but was highly controversial due to its portrayal of African American men (played by white actors in blackface) as unintelligent and sexually aggressive towards white women, and the portrayal of the Ku Klux Klan (whose original founding is dramatized) as a heroic force.[2][3] There were widespread protests[4] against The Birth of a Nation, and it was banned in several cities. The film is also credited as one of the events which inspired the formation of the "second era" Ku Klux Klan at Stone Mountain, Georgia in the same year. The Birth of a Nation was used as a recruiting tool for the KKK.[6] It was the first motion picture to be shown at the White House. President Woodrow Wilson supposedly said the film was "... like writing history with lightning. And my only regret is that it is all so terribly true". The attribution is disputed. |

If the U.S. conquered Japan after WW2, wouldn't America's Comics Code have killed the growth of anime and manga as we know it today? |

This has nothing to do with bigotry, racism or censorship. It's the Japanese finally facing and admitting to the crimes of child sexual abuse that they have been openly supporting and selling for the past 40 years. The only reason why some people here are pulling the bigotry crap excuse is because you're a bunch of blind idiots who never lived "in country" and don't know jack shit!
Lolicon and shotacon should be banned from manga, from anime and from society as the sick, deviant forms they are. The Governor of Tokyo has done the right thing and it's time for the rest of Japan to follow suit. |

One way to look at this sinful law anime may be forced to come up with a good plot instead of relying on fanservice all the time,
the other is obvious, we want our lolis, don't care for shota/yaoi but I won't ban it I just won't look at it. I like a good plot but I like nude lolis so I support anyone who still wants to kill Ishihara! |

What the hell are you on about? No real child abuse was committed by those drawings in manga/anime. Just like nobody gets headshot in real life because of Call of Duty. So if nothing really happened no crime was committed. I thought getting reality and fiction confused only happened to kids that think they can fly because they put a red towel on their shoulders. |
