I notice some people saying that not buying this film simply because it's not dubbed is, infact, petty. Wrong.

I don't think it's necessarily petty, but it's not going to stop me from owning the movie because I happen to like it. I mean, whether you want a dub or not, there's not going to be one, so what are you gonna do? Download a fansub? You're still not getting a dub, and you're not supporting the film either. Innocence I would prefer without a dub anyway, (or to be more accurate, I wouldn't listen to the dub if there was one) but if I wanted the dub, I would still buy the movie, because IMO it's a movie worth owning.

Your right, the cover is horrendous. But it would have been nice if they took the effort to do a dub, especially with something like Innocence.
Oh, and just to be picky, you forgot Metropolis for Columbia-Tristar. That was dubbed.

That's right... it felt like I was forgetting something. Wonder if they'll do a dub for Steamboy (my guess is no).

actually yes they will, the SONY guy at the Toronto Film Festival said that himself. when they do a wide release there will be the original Japanese "unedited" version(which they showed at the film fest), and the English dubbed version because they are going for a wide release.

not buying the DVD because there is no dub is just plain stubborn/stupid if you ask me.

Actually it's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.. and it's Chow Yun-Fat in that one.

Not to mention, most of Jackie Chan's movies are in Cantonese, CTHD is Mandarin.

And speaking of bad covers, I saw the cover for the Miramax release of Hero.

Compare this misleading one that makes you think it's an action flick...

..To the actual cover, here.

Not to mention they screwed up some the translation... but oh well. Anime smile + sweatdrop

Hmm... well, it DOES have Tarrintino's name on it, even though he didn't do anything. Seriously though, people that haven't seen it before will be disappointed if they think it's an action flick after looking at the cover. Hell, after looking at the trailers they had all over TV, it looked like an action flick.

Miramax added Matrix type font to the Avalon cover:

About the no show of dub, I don't mind. I wouldn't buy a movie if it was dub-only, but that's because there would be other ways to get the original language. And I did like this movie. I don't think it was perfect...but what is?

It's already out in the US. The subtitles aren't very good though(which is why I didn't buy it).

I'm very skeptical about the wide release part, since I recall reading more or less the same thing about the Cowboy Bebop movie (some studio PR flack at a festival said they'd give it a wide release, which means at least 1800 screens or so, but it actually got about 1% of that), but Sony/Destination has dubbed every other anime they've done, so I don't doubt that they'll give it a decent dub, though probably without the celebrity voices like Disney uses.

They didn't dub the Tokyo Godfathers, at least not on the first release.

I'm glad that Innocence is getting a US release before Xmas, but I have to agree that US release cover is horrible. I'm not buying it, as I already bought the Japanese release. As for the release not including a dub, it's fine by me. I don't watch anime dubbed that often anyway and in a film like Innocence it would be really hard to capture the essence of the film, since the film is so philosophical. I'm not saying it can't be done, but little changes in translation can mean a big deal in a movie like Innocence. I do agree on the point that the release including a dub would give it a wider audience as it would bring in more casual viewers.

They didn't dub Memories, either.
