My thoughts on YuGiOh vol 1, from another forum i post on:
Quote: | First 2 volumes of this came in the post today. Just finished watching the first one.
It has the orginal OP/ED, opening is very catchy. No translation of credits though (anywhere)
New dub seems very close to the subtitle script, only changes of word order at some points. (of course, it still has the americanized names) It has the orginal music.
Dub seems louder than the Japanese audio track.
Menus are very basic, just the logo plus a picture of Yugi and Exodia (on first disc) Menus quick to load, BUT theres one of them bloody front loaded adverts for WWE(toys)?? then some 4kids trailers (which can be skiped)
Video quality's quite good, slightly grainy at some points.
Overall its pretty good for the first go at it. Shame about the front loaded advert though
|
The advert at the begining is around 10 seconds long, but why did 4kids include a WWE advert? if it was a Yugioh toy advert i would have understood.

Anothe rthing i noticed about the YuGiOh dvds is the card names have been changed back to the orginal Japanese in some cases, in others they seem to be translated slightly diffrently.

Are you saying that you're dissapointed that some american singer didn't rape another japanese song of its dignity? I mean seriously. There have been very few instances of the english dub over of a OP/ED song being good IMO. (See macross plus for a good one)
(and for a bad one you need look no further than YuYu Hakusho on CN)

Using the word Rape, an event or action that causes a great deal of emotional and physical pain and abuse, is hardly appropriate for the altering of songs on Foriegn language Cartoons. Please think about these things.

Yeah. A word like that used for a small thing like dubbed songs.
BTW, i prefer it if the songs are dubbed too. Makes the dub seem fuller, if you get my drfit (funis dubbed songs are suallu good, and when pioneer/genneon did them they did them good too)

Agreed on that...I love FUNI just because they dub the songs in English. They are really good, like the GXP and Yuyu Hakusho intos. I love dubbed openings, and Media Blasters did some too, like Kenshin and Rayearth, but I think they gave up after those.
My thoughts on unedited Yu-Gi-Oh...YES YES and YES, please!

I agree with you. It's too bad that Pioneer, Media Blaster and other companies stopped doing that. I loved the Tenchi ops.

Yeah, media blasters kinda quit with RK with the second, third, and fourth season of RK, which really got me thinking. I kinda liked the opening and ending of RK in English than in Japanese, but that isn't news to me. I think I heard from somewhere that FUNi was going to stop dubbing songs as well, but I hope that's not true. That's one of the reasons why FUNI is my favorite company.
Anyway, back on topic, sry!!!

Really? You guys actually like it when the original japanese music is replaced with english stuff? You sure are the minority. Most people, myself including frown upon dubbed openings and would rather have the original. I always switch the audio track over to Japanese to watch the intros and ending to Funi anime even if im going to watch the show dubbed, because the Japanese versions of the songs are always catchier. By the way Media Blasters did a terrible job dubbing the themes Rurouni Kenshins and Rayearth. Im not suprised they stopped dubbing the themes after that.
Anyhoo Im glad yugioh is finally getting an uncut version. The manga kicks ass.
