So I know there's a lot of sellers on the board so I figured I'd ask this here since Ebay wasn't much help. I recently sold and item via auction. How long does it usually take to receive a payment via Paypal? Does Ebay inform you or do I have to keep an eye on the Paypal site?

It's been a little while since I sold anything on eBay but once a payment is made via PayPal, you typically get notice of it via the E-mail account on your PayPal account pretty quickly. In my experience, a delay of even a few days would be unusually long. As a seller I don't actually know when the buyer sends payment.

As a buyer I've made a payment via PayPal and received a confirmation of payment received notice from the seller within a day most of the time.

Can you elaborate on your situation? Is the buyer claiming they already sent the payment via PayPal? Also, have you double checked that all of the account info is right? Is the buyer a trustworthy buyer or a newbie?

Also, check with PayPal itself rather than eBay. I'm fairly sure that despite the very close ties, the support staff aren't the same. (I could be wrong about that.)

Don't know about selling, but I actually just bought something from Ebay earlier today. I made an instant payment with my debit card via PayPal, so there was no delay in when the seller recieved my payment. He shipped it out less than an hour after I paid.

That was with my debit card, though. Sometimes, peepz pay with e-checks on Paypal, and that can take upwards to 5 days to clear before the cash is given to the seller.

Well I got a notice from Ebay saying the auction was over and the item sold so I was just wondering when I should send the item, because I hadn't recieved any emails regarding payment by the buyer. I didn't want to send anything if I had not received money for it. This was the 13th. Today I got some emails saying the buyer paid Paypal but Paypal is withholding it because I'm a "First Time Seller" or some similar BS and I have to send the item and provide tracking info before getting paid, which I'll do, but it doesn't sit right with me that I'm automatically considered to be some type of criminal right off the bat. Rolling Eyes

I understand why they're doing it, I just find it slightly offensive.

I've never sold anything, but just bought. However, if I were you, Id wait until they pay, and then send. Make sure you got the money first.

I actually got my paypal account suspended twice for no good reason. I sent them what they needed and they lift the suspension. To me, I felt offended because 1. I didn't do shit and 2. I had to send so much financial and personal information to them and 3. The process is just a pain in the ass.

If they want to play this delaying tactic on you, more power to them. They just wont get their stuff. You really aren't loosing in this game. You will have to go through the process though. I did and nothing happened, so I assume nothing is going to happen if you do what they request.

I haven't sold anything through Ebay either, but show the clerk the item and get there name, as crazy as that sounds it might help to have a post office employ, or two saying they saw you shipping a package with the item if all else fails.

If the buyer paid through eBay Checkout you will recieve an immediate email notification from eBay telling you that payment has been made. If you didn't get this notice then the buyer hasn't paid yet or he's trying to pay by different means.

Check your PayPal account - if payment has been made there will be an entry showing it in your transaction history. If you have an unverified PayPal account they may place a hold on the funds until the item has been delivered to the buyer so it's important to make sure you have a tracking number for the package, you can't always rely on the buyer to mark the shipment as delivered, with a tracking number you'll know. Once they know it's been delivered PayPal should release the funds.

Buyers don't always pay right away, it can sometimes take several days. Don't ship anything until you've been paid for it.

So is entering a bank account and getting "verified" necessary with Paypal to receive a payment or will the funds get placed there anyway with just my Debit card entered? Since businesses can issue refunds through it and goes into my account fine I'd be inclined to say no, I don't need to, but just curious.

No money you receive through paypal goes directly to your bank account. All the money gets placed into your paypal account, and from there, if you desire, you can have them transfer it to your bank account. That takes a few days though.

That is offensive. They must have instigated that policy after my selling time. It's not only offensive but places a greater risk of loss on you.

It's just a bad reaction to all of the scammers who tried to use eBay to rip people off. Of course, the REAL problem was always the "sell a few great items, get trusted, then start to rip off everyone" types but the idiots in charge of things rarely get regulatory matters right. Rolling Eyes

As Eri94 posted, the payment will sit in a Paypal account, accruing interest they might share part of with you, until you tranfer it out to your bank account and they tax (er, I mean, fee) you for a chunk of it.

Getting the account "verified" really doesn't do anything but make it clear to everyone that, yes, the account really does exist and you really do use it and whatever other information they glean from the process.

I think there are some minor benefits to being "verified" though.

This is Paypal's policy currently in regards to Payment Holds:

Quote:
Why is my payment being held?

We occasionally hold payments to help make sure that a buyer is satisfied with their purchase. A payment hold doesn't mean you've done anything wrong.

Here are some common reasons why a payment might be held:

* You're a new seller.
* You're selling in a new category.
* You've had disputes with buyers in the past.
* Your buyer reported a problem with a purchase.
* You sell items in higher-risk categories where we see more chargebacks and disputes. These categories include tickets, gift certificates, computers, consumer electronics, and cell phones.

If your payment is being held because of a dispute, the payment will be released after the dispute is resolved.

If your eBay payment is being held, your payment will be released after your buyer leaves you positive Feedback or three days after we can confirm the item was delivered. If they don’t leave you positive Feedback or you can’t confirm that the item was delivered, your payment will be released after 21 days as long as your buyer hasn’t reported a problem.

You can log in to your PayPal account any time to view the status of a payment hold.

Find out more about payment holds in the Security and Protections section of the PayPal website.

The stuff in bold would apply to my situation I guess. Personally, I'd say only the last 3 of those bullets are fair/logical reasons to hold someone's payment. The first two are kind of heavy handed. Mad
