I think it's a terrible idea, especially something like Real Bout High School.
It's like with British Comedies. So far there have been 15 attempted copies, so popular that the Americans go "hey this could work lets try and make our own version" and as you guessed it. Every single one failed.
I know they still have to pitch the idea but still I'd be happy if they just stopped trying to turn animes into movies. The only movie I wouldnt mind seeing made is probably a Ghibli if nothing was changed or added and it was basically a live action version word for word. I want to see what Totoro would look like if he was real
Of course this is just my opinion, nothing against americans, tokyopop and the delightful Melissa (she's cute but stopped being a teenager a decade ago).
Money would be better spent releasing Tokyopop mangas in the UK where they now hold many licenses yet all newstands/bookshops still have no manga whatsoever. Manga industry in the UK is about 10 years behind america thanks to america distributors who exported manga to other english speaking countries that they never even held the rights to for well over a decade.

Not entirely true: All in the Family was a remake of 'Till Death Us Do Part, Sanford and Son was a remake of Steptoe and Son, Three's Company was a remake of Man About the House, and the more recent Cosby series was a remake of One Foot in the Grave. Remakes of British comedies seem to do better if they rename the show, for some reason.
Also, the American version of Absolutely Fabulous never got off the ground, but there is a French version (though it's a movie and not a series).

I think they (commented edited for content). |
Don't they edit the stuff for the DVDs anyway? Or at least with Initial D.

well all in all, in seems unlikely this movie will ever actually get made when the only starpower it has is mellisa joan hart who has down almost nothing years. As far as the license. Real Bout isn't all the exciting, but it does seem like it could be translated pretty easiliy into a Mortal Kombat-ish movie. Regardless, any anime movie is a good thing and any success could lead to a flood of anime movies ala US Comics recently, so all in all Go Real Bout!

I'll keep an open mind and take the road less traveled: I'm curious to see how this is, and hope they do a good job.

The best thing about this news is that Melissa Joan Hart will be too busy making Real bout to be involved in the Eva movie. They should just place all the bad actors in Real bout and leave the talent for Eva. All apoligies to Melissa Joan Hart fans, I'm sure she'll do a wonderful job.

If Melissa Joan Hart played Asuka, not even Shinji would be attracted to her.

Why does everyone hate Mel? She looks good for her age, good enough to pose as a college student still
But this news could also be fake, I mean its not even on Tokyopop's website. TP usually always has their press releases on their website.

Truthfully, I find her oddly asexual. Not attractive, not unattractive, just kind of there.
