Some seiyuus use different names for different types of works, specifically, 18+ titles. A good example is Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, in which Chiaki Takahashi and Kaori Mizuhashi use their pseudonyms, Tomoko Ishibashi and Tomomi Uehara, respectively. Tomoko Ishibashi has been merged with and redirected to Chiaki Takahashi as her "also known as," but Tomomi Uehara's entry still stand by its own. On the other hand, her role in the spinoff, Akane Maniax, credited her real name (Kaori Mizuhashi) with a precision tag, for this is how it was on the official site (I wonder why Age did this; people who don't know about her pseudonym might get a wrong impression that Age has casted a different actress for Akane).
I'm sure there will be more cases to be discovered in the future (even the most prolific cast like Takehito Koyasu has a pseudonym for 18+ titles), and I'd like to know which way does ANN prefer: 1) list credits by real name (or the most publicized stage name) with precision tags, or 2) keep pseudonym entries as in the original cast list, but automatically redirects the link to the real person with "also known as" info. This is also my preferred method. For now, the "also known as" information could only be entered by staffs. Is it possible to allow common users to enter this kind of information? EDIT: Man, this is unbelievable. Now I understand why KimiNozo has so many "debut" seiyuu with no info: they are all pseudonyms. See here for a list (Japanese).

dormcat,
I think adding alternate names is an excellent idea. I think probably half the errors in the Encyclopedia are because we’re trying to catalog what is mostly Japanese language information in English. And, it seems like the largest number of those errors (at least the ones I see posted in this forum) are duplicate names. Since Japanese can be romanized several ways, all of which can be considered correct, having the ability to enter alternate spellings should reduce the number of duplications. chris keck |
