Wow, this is such a nice thing for Ken Akamatsu to do for the fans. I hope everything goes well for both him(and the other creators he convinced) and the fans. Good stuff.

Sounds good, not much use for the non-japanese speaking among us, but with any luck the idea will catch on and a similar website will be created for english translated manga.
I dont think it would do a large amount to curcve the scanlations, but at least it would get some money back to the creators (ide use it). |

Well, since this is pretty much obviously going to be in raw Japanese and out of print (aka OLD) manga, it will do nothing to halt the scanlations.
But it is still a good move and pushes Ken-sensei further up my list of favorite mangaka. |

This is aimed at a Japanese audience, so has nothing to do with scanlations. However, if a version was posted with good english translations, on high quality images (the site isn't up yet, but we can certainly hope that having the original files on hand should make this trivial, but the example of existing streaming sites has made it obvious that quality is always ignored), I can certainly see an official stable server being more popular than a scanlation site. |

Great news, but I would rather have a physical rerelease of Love Hina (make it happen Kodansha USA...whenever you tell us what's going on with you guys)
It would be nice to see this in English though since I can't read manga raw. |

Whether you can read Japanese or not, I think this sounds like a definite step in the right direction. If this site does well, which I certainly hope it does, then maybe we might start to see some similar sites hosting English versions of such series.
Either way, I guess it's time to put the 26th on my calendar, even though I'm still far from fluent in Japanese. Heck, it'll be good practice in my opinion.

I'll be interested to see how this is handled, particularly the resolution and quality of the images. There's a lot of old stuff I'd love to get my hands on, and I'm willing to read it in Japanese.
I suspect that these will be scans from tankobon. It seems a bit much to hope that original page artwork still exists in usable form after ten or more years, and unlikely that the publishers would release the positives or negatives used in the printing process (assuming that those still exist in usable form). It seems to me that if done properly, this kind of effort could be a good step toward preserving twentieth-century manga in digital form. Looking ahead, I hope someone is giving thought to how to archive the original work for manga that is being produced in the digital era. |
