It looks like I've triggered an algorithm that has identified me as someone who consistently tries to manipulate the percentages either up or down. Oh, well.....

I try to add enlightening commentary, but let's face it:
I'm far from perfect.

I have seen two three videos that examine the concept of "classics" from distinctly different perspectives:
  1. Gigguk | Garnt Maneetapho

  2. Mother's Basement | Geoff Thew

  3. Bonsai Pop | Mike ?

In this video YouTube user Gigguk (Garnt Maneetapho) talks about SAO in the context of gateway anime.

10 Anime That Are Fantastic But Hard To Recommend
Anime only continues to get more and more mainstream, but these are 10 anime we wouldn't want to recommend even though they're great.

Seen/Read All (public list) Rating
Koikaze (manga) Excellent
  • Rereading.
  • The art style is quite different.....
  • The anime did not show the angst that pervades the life of Koushirou.
  • Like Koushirou, I neglect relationships and let them disappear.
  • Not surprising, to be sure, but a number of characters didn't make the cut into the anime.

So I'm conflicted about this manga; on the one hand, I identify with Saeki's pain of unreciprocated love. On the other hand, this feels like yet another example of the sexism that is endemic to Far Eastern (Asia) culture. I'm going to leave the ranking at 10/11.

My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness (manga) Masterpiece
I definitely relate to the depression and the feelings of worthlessness.....
(The) Name of the Flower (manga) Excellent
Pro:
  • The girl (in a feminine manner that follows the rules allowed by Japanese patriarchy) pursues her man.
  • Only four volumes long; so it's not as though you have to invest a lot of time/$$$ in it.....
  • This drama/romance is aimed at young adult women; that alone is enough to recommend it to anyone who isn't a rabid Shōnen fanatic.
  • It reinforced within me my realization that I'm unlikely to end up in a romantic relationship. In that regard, the ending was depressing for me.
Con:
  • The girl (in a feminine manner that follows the rules allowed by Japanese patriarchy) pursues her man.
  • An adult male wins (however incidentally) a college student twelve years his junior. Yeah, this is exactly an example of how patriarchy works in Japanese culture.
Therefore, am changing my rating from 10/11 (Execllent) to 9/11 (Very Good).
(The) Night is Young, Walk on Girl (novel) Masterpiece
For very personal reasons, I am rating this at 11/11.
A Silent Voice (manga) Masterpiece
Reminded me of parts of my childhood.
"A Silent Voice - The Sound of Silence"|Beyond Ghibli (Joe O'Connell)
Spice & Wolf (light novel) Masterpiece
A number of the stories are remarkably poignant.
(The) Voices of a Distant Star (manga) Very good
A slightly different ending.....
