I saw this mainly for the sake of nostalgia and curiosity, and found that it holds up better than I expected. That said, I had low expectations. On the one hand, the protagonists are a bit bland and not that well-developed, and there's still quite a few implausible bits due to the show being in the Super Robot genre. On the other hand, I give the show some credit for having antagonists that aren't one-dimensional villains who are just e-e-e-villl. |

I wasn't as impressed as some other people were. One of the things that bugged me was the way that so many virtual parts of the augmented reality behaved as physical things, even when that made no sense, such as the anti-virus "searchies" that could be blocked by virtual walls. Another was how essentially magic things were given a "sciency" label, such as how the pretty much alchemic glyphs were called "cryptography," even though they had nothing to do with disguising messages. The human drama was still interesting, though. |

I was surprised by how much I liked this, considering that it is largely an old-school Super Robot show and has most of the plot contrivances (e.g. implausible mecha, monsters of the week, etc.) that come with that. That said, it's executed rather well. The over-the-top bits of the show provide some humor, and the stakes and peril mount up as the overarching plot of the show continues, which keeps things from getting too stale. |
