Dragon Ball (TV) Decent What little I remember of the Saban dub, it was certainly good enough to make me wake up at 6:30 AM to catch on UPN, Sunday mornings. Ouch. Was fun. :) Couldn't watch the FUNimation dub -- x.x voice actors were bad.. I should rewatch this series to reassess it :/
Dragon Ball Z (TV) Awful Like Voltron, I gave this series many chances, particularly because I had enjoyed the preceding series quite a bit, but I can't stand it. I couldn't stand it in 1995; I couldn't stand the obscenely, offensively and illegally-long run on Cartoon Network; I couldn't stand the re-dub (I'd rather have HFIL and people "being sent to another dimension" again if it means I have decent voice actors -- good god x_X) ; I couldn't care less about Frieza, the Android Saga, the Cell Saga, the Buu Saga, Chi-Chi, Gohan (I HATE Chi-Chi), the stupidly long and boring battles (by long, I mean, the Infamous 5-minute showdowns that last a fucking month!), the lack of likeable characters (that's right -- I don't like a single character on this show -- whatever good qualities they had back in Dragon Ball was quickly STRIPPED AWAY in the name of conforming to this stupid franchise), the unfunny humor, and the fact that this show has disgustingly outlasted every single show that I like, including Robotech (check), Sailor Moon (check), and what seemed like a personal insult to every non-DBZ fan out there, Mobile Suit Gundam (>< You want a reason why I quit watching Cartoon Network? Here it is...). No, I don't consider it a worthy time-slot replacement of ANY currently cancelled or on-hiatus show, never mind Gundam. Even Reboot is more redeemable than this overrated crap. Shows like this one are why I left anime fandom -- why try to get into shows when they don't stand a chance against sub-par nonsense like this? What's the point? It's the show that would serve as an excellent argument AGAINST anime. I HATE Dragon Ball Z. >< I hate this show and I hate everything it represents -- the dumbing-down of worldwide youth, the elevation of action over anything else (including..oh, I don't know, good animation? art direction? character design? good writing?), shallow values, what looks like mainstreamed misogyny in the form of some of the most annoying and odious female characters in existence, and fanservice in the form of style over anything resembling substance. It's just out-and-out crap. I HATE Dragon Ball Z. Thank god it's almost dead. It's probably more dead now than Sailor Moon. It certainly deserves to be -- at least Sailor Moon had people on it who seemed to give a damn about it as a piece of work over than just solely milking it for what it's worth. >< Good god...
Excel Saga (TV) I've watched a few episodes subbed. Definitely the comedy series of the turn of the millenium. :)
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (movie) I saw this in a crowded room full of Final Fantasy Fanboys (I'm a fanGIRL -- ha, ha) at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2005. Fansub, of course. o_O It seemed nice enough. It requires a re-viewing
Flint: The Time Detective (TV) What little I've seen on this show back when it was on the air seemed pretty wretched, with sub-par voicing to boot. >< I wouldn't make little kids watch this -- I think I would've hated this show as a kid, too.
Gatchaman (TV) Good I saw this as G-Force on Cartoon Network back during 1996 or 1997, barely before Toonami. Enjoyable perhaps, and certainly a technical achievement, which is why I rate it highly though I don't enjoy it too much, myself. Some may find it a little boring at times. Definitely for old-schoolers. :)
Ginga Nagareboshi Gin (TV) I've seen... what... three or so episodes? It's certainly intriguing enough (and VIOLENT! O.O), but damn, isn't it also one of the MANLIEST shows in existence? Sometimes, it's more manly than friggin' Fist of the North Star, and it's about a DOG DESTINED TO FIGHT A BEAR! HOW ABOUT THAT? It must be seen to be believed. Might make those who hate blood a little squeamish -- it's got quite a bit of that for a kid's series. (heh, here, I like Hokuto no Ken, and I'm complaining about blood on a show about dogs. Talk about hypocritical..XD)
Hello Kitty (TV) So-so
Inuyasha (TV) I've watched one episode. I'm not sure I'd like to see more, but Urusei Yatsura was definitely the infinitely more interesting series. :/
Lupin the 3rd (TV) I've only seen the dub (and two episodes of that) on Cartoon Network. I'll rate it when I see more episodes (I'd probably have to see the sub, too :/)
Mobile Suit Gundam (TV) Masterpiece Great, great show. So great, that when Cartoon Network cancelled it in favor of back-to-back Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z episodes back in late 2001, I felt personally insulted, so much so that I quit CN altogether and haven't kept up with much (including anime in general) 'til very recently. :/ So, yeah, I'm a little freakish like that, but I enjoyed this series very much, despite the dub's uninspired voice acting. :) Definitely a must-see.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team (OAV) Saw one episode on CN, once. Looked nice, but it was aired too late in the day for me to keep interest. I'd like to see this in full, someday.
Ninja Resurrection (OAV) Awful
Noir (TV) Saw one episode on Anime on Demand while visiting relatives in Tampa, FL. Dub was boring, but I'd like to see it again...
Pokémon (TV)
Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight (TV) Saw one episode. I've heard many things about it -- that the sub was iffy, that the story was iffy.. Many, many things. But I'd like to see it in full. :)
Sailor Moon Sailor Stars (TV)
Sailor Moon SuperS (TV) Bad Very, very bad series that was so annoyingly unenjoyable, with few original ideas on its palette (and the few that were wore on the senses... ><;;), that, unlike my usual insisting on capturing every broadcast episode on tape, I avoided many of the episodes, recording more of the Amazonness Quartet episodes than the Amazon Trio ones. Not only was it traipsing in "seen-that-done-already-*and better, too!*" territory, the genuises running (ruining?) the show decided to center it around Chibi-Usa, the WORST character. WHY? She's underdeveloped, she's useless to any ongoing plot, she's unlikeable, and she's WEAK in battle -- there isn't anything I like about her character at all, and this series is centered around her. Imagine an entire Sopranos episode (or season, in this case) centered around Janice or Tony's mother -- it'd be just as enjoyable. >< And then, the only interesting, intriguing new character is Queen Nehelenia, whose backstory SUCKS, so even SHE fails as a new entry. You have boring villains who go on about dream mirrors and all other nonsense, the Golden Crystal, pseudo-interspecies puppy love between the two most boring characters throughout the entire series, absolutely no new and/or original insight into any of our OLD characters, animation that's boring enough, but also sadly, wasted on the stupid story, and you have the worst season of any program that I've ever seen. x_X Many a Sailor Moon fan will tell you that SuperS sucks -- the only ones who may like it are Chibi-Usa fans, who are few... and for good reason -- Chibi-Usa is a terrible character. Most interesting thing that happens to her is in Sailor Stars, which is something too nice for me to ruin for all of you who hate her as much as I do. :)
Samurai Pizza Cats (TV) Good I recorded quite a few episodes back when UPN ran it on-air back in fall '98. It has very dated humor (one episode features Big Cheese making references to an old O.J. Simpson commercial!), but it's definitely enjoyable..
Speed Racer (TV) Good Saw this on MTV back during 1993 or 1994, back when they aired it either before or after Liquid Television. I found this show very enjoyable. I also got the first two episodes recorded when Cartoon Network aired it back in 1996 as well. Not bad for kids.
Tekkaman Blade (TV) Good I only got two episodes of the UPN Saban dub recorded back when it aired on Fall '95, the same season Sailor Moon premiered. I wish Saban had finished the series -- Bob Bergen was a better Slade/Blade, among other things... :/ Unfortunately, since I live in the States, I never got to finish the series past when a certain someone (^^;) died. I'd like to finish it someday :)
Tekken: The Motion Picture (OAV)
Tenchi in Tokyo (TV) Awful
Tenchi Universe (TV) So-so
Urusei Yatsura (TV 1981)
Voltron (U.S. TV) Weak A show that I have *tried* to like -- I really, really tried. I caught it on Toonami 10 years ago, and I really, really gave this show multiple chances, but I ended up disliking it greatly. This show has animation so bad (yeah, it's from 1981, but you know what? Daimos came out 3 years earlier, and it looks FAR, FAR better than this), characters so uninteresting and annoying, and battles so boring, that I ended up rooting for Lotor, the evil alien prince with a bizarre mother complex (not Oedipus, but...bad enough) who wanted to enslave the princess and put her in his harem. PLEASE ENSLAVE HER! THAT WOULD MAKE THINGS INTERESTING...x.x
Yu-Gi-Oh! (TV 1/1998)
