The Click

October 6th - October 13th

Greetings and salutations, fellow TV addicts! Welcome to another somewhat-wholesome iteration of The Click, the definitive source for anime on TV with supererogatory comments and imbecilic jokes. But first, the typical monition; keep in those wonderful little minds of yours, that all dates and times listed are tentative, and all listings are Eastern. The time zone, that is.

Things are going to start off a bit differently this week. No, I won't erupt into a rollicking song and dance routine - as fantastic as that idea sounds. Instead, there won't be a Click Pick of the Week for this week! To be honest, it's a rather predictable week of television, shockingly enough. You've got all the big names, the Naruto-s and the Bleach-s, bringing their patented fresh rhymes to the crib, and all the typical rerun offenders carrying along their own particular brand of funk and/or noise.  Or perhaps you might even consider reading a book? Now I do realize that in our culture, anybody who says "I read books," even if it may be true, is typically delivered with the kind of condescension deserving of a swift, tooth-shattering sucker punch to the face - but.

I forgot where I was going with that tirade. Let's just, move along:

You know, I was watching Adult Swim late last night and saw this exact episode. So, essentially, I could go into excruciating detail and spoil everything, but I won't. The highlights: Izumi essentially "graduates" Ed and Al, having run out of Alchemic-related things to teach them, and sends them to visit the enigmatic Dante, an old woman who lives, as the title points out, in the "deep forest." Also living with Dante is an old acquaintance from twenty or so episodes back. Plus other stuff!

Adult Swim will be "burning off" the remaining eight episodes of Inuyasha starting next Monday, but YTV picks things up a couple days early. Essentially a light-hearted excursion wherein Kagome and Inuyasha reappear in the modern era quarrel over the accidental destruction of Kagome's bike. Romance-comedy!

Saturday October 7 9:00pm - Episode 54 "Summoning Jutsu: Wisdom of the Toad Sage"

Color me surprised, and somewhat shocked even, that nearly all of Jiraiya's creepy voyeurism and perverse jokes made it through the rigors of the TV dub process. Is there really any coherent argument to be made that Naruto's TV dub is lame anymore? Not that there was much of one in the first place, considering the release of uncut Japaneses language tracks on the DVDs, but whatever.

This week: Naruto tries his hand at the "summoning jutsu" with hilarious results; Gaara reiterates why he's strong and deadly and whatnot; and Kabuto reveals a threatening plot against the sleepy village of Konoha.

Fans of the Naruto dub often point to the oft-excruciating One Piece adaptation for comparison to what a truly wretched TV dub looks like. Nonetheless, it's been given a second lease on life in YTV, and here we go with Luffy's toned-down pirate crew out to free Nami and her village from the tyrannical rule of the shark-pirate, Arlong.

It's somewhat comforting to me, honestly, that kids are still watching Pokemon after all these years. Comforting, because all those dorks in the press trying to pass off anime as a "fad" are totally dead freakin' wrong.  This week: May loses her very-ultra-important Pokemon egg when it sticks to the oddly-named "Elekid"; then, Ash and co. take a scenic detour through a forest and find an injured Celebi.

Two unrelated shorts comprise this particular Pokemon-related peregrination: Meowth attempts to have a picnic, only to find his efforts thwarted by an invisible Pokemon, and later Meowth finds his true love and makes several awkward advances towards the fellow feline.

Samurai 7 has completed its run in the states, however if you missed it the first time, shame on you by the way, there's always reruns! And, uh, DVDs too, I guess. Anyway, in the snowy northern region known as Canada: A momentary calm winds its way through Kanna village, allowing Kirara and Katsushiro to wrangle with that crazy little thing called love, while Kyuzo attempts a dangerous one-man raid against a nearby enemy encampment.
