Los Angeles, CA (June 1st, 2022) – Los Angeles based film distribution and production company, Eleven Arts, announced their acquisition of North American distribution rights for the anime feature film The House of the Lost on the Cape during their Industry Panel at A-Kon on Saturday, June 4th.

The House of the Lost on the Cape is based on the award-winning Japanese novel by Sachiko Kashiwaba. The novel was originally serialized in the Iwate Nippo daily newspaper from May 2014 to July 2015, and later published by Kodansha. The novel won the 54th Noma Children's Literature Award in 2016. The film adaptation, along with other anime films, was released in 2021 as part of the Continuing Support Project 2011+10 (Zutto Ouen Project 2011+10), which marked the 10th anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.

The film tells the story of Yui, Hiyori and Kiwa, three complete strangers that come to live together and their hearts begin to heal. Shinya Kawatsura (Non Non Biyori, Kokoro Connect, Sagrada Reset) directed the film, and Reiko Yoshida (A Silent Voice, Violet Evergarden, K-ON!) wrote the screenplay. The film was animated by david production (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Cells at Work!). Early this year the film won Best Animation Film at the 76th Annual Mainichi Film Awards. Recently, the film was nominated as an Official Selection for the 2022 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Eleven Arts plans to announce details on release dates and ticket sales at a later date.

About The House of the Lost on the Cape
17-year-old run-away Yui and 8-year-old Hiyori, who lost her family and her voice, have no place to go when they run into Kiwa, a strange old lady. She offers them a place to stay, in a slightly banged-up old house overlooking the sea, a Mayoiga. Despite joining Kiwa on a whim, the two girls find comfort in Mayoiga, a legendary house, said to look after lost travelers, and the warm hospitality of Kiwa. Both girls' damaged hearts begin to heal little by little. Until one day, a variety of strange beings which Kiwa calls “Fushigitto” begin popping up around the house.
