Anime Powerhouse Toei Animation Becomes First Major Studio to Launch a Direct to Consumer Strategy in Latin America
and the Caribbean via New Spanish-Language Company-branded Social Media
LOS ANGELES – March 23, 2022. Toei Animation will now speak directly to anime fans throughout Latin America, with today's announcement that the company has launched new Spanish-language social media channels. Starting now, Spanish-speaking fans can interact with Toei Animation on native language Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages – a first for any major anime studio. Latin American fans will not only enjoy robust mix of company and series-specific news and information as well as special regional content but also have an opportunity to comment and interact with other fans. This direct to consumer effort was spearheaded by Toei Animation's U.S. subsidiary, which will also manage the new social media channels going forward. Based in Los Angeles, Calif., Toei Animation Inc. manages both the film and TV series distribution and consumer product licensing of Toei Animation's top properties – some of the world's biggest anime franchises including Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, One Piece, Digimon and Saint Seiya – in North America, Latin America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Today's news is on the heels of two recent Toei Animation LATAM headlines regarding its Sailor Moon and Saint Seiya franchises. On February 18, promoter LoveJapan Entertainment announced the premiere date for the first official “Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac” (known in Mexico as “Los Caballeros Del Zodiaco”) concert in Mexico – “Los Caballeros del Zodiaco: Pegasus Fantasy” Symphonic Experience will open September 3 at Arena CDMX. And on March 10, Netflix revealed that all three seasons of the hit series “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal” will soon be available to LATAM customers [ES] [PT-BR]in both Spanish sub and dub as well as Portuguese sub and (for the first time ever) dub. This will add to growing list of Toei Animation franchise titles on Netflix LATAM, which currently includes the first four seasons of the global sensation “One Piece” as well as three One Piece feature films.
“Anime is incredibly popular across Latin America and the region is home to one of the biggest fanbases of Toei Animation properties outside of Asia,” said LiSA Yamatoya, director of marketing and licensing for Toei Animation Inc. “With so many exciting things on the horizon from the Studio, including new movies from both Dragon Ball Super and One Piece, it's the perfect opportunity to connect and engage with Spanish-speaking fans and consumers across Latin America.”
The pioneer of anime, Toei Animation was founded in 1956 and has grown to become one of the world's most prolific animation studios. To date, Toei Animation has produced over 12,683 TV episodes (encompassing over 222 shows) and more than 242 feature-length films. Through an extensive network of TV, satellite and OTT distributors and licensing partners supported by its sales offices in Los Angeles, Paris and Hong Kong as well as a representative office in Shanghai, Toei Animation entertains fans with the best in anime around the clock and around the global.
