Disappearance Diary Captures Two Ignatz Award Nominations for Fanfare/Ponent Mon at 2009 SPX
Nominations coincide with company's first appearance at show
Quality translated graphic novel publisher Fanfare / Ponent Mon will celebrate its debut at SPX this year with the distinctive honor of having one of its titles nominated for an Ignatz Award in two different categories.
Voted one of the Best Graphic Novels of 2008 by New York magazine and listed on Publisher's Weekly's Top 10 Manga, 2008, Hideo Azuma's Disappearance Diary is the stark, sometimes humorous, oftentimes raw, memoir of his life on the streets after abruptly leaving the spotlight of successful manga artist.
Disappearance Diary has been nominated for “Outstanding Graphic Novel” and “Outstanding Story,” and Fanfare / Ponent Mon will have copies available for purchase at the show.
SPX is the preeminent showcase for the exhibition of independent comic books and the discovery of new creative talent. The Ignatz Awards, named for the character in the classic comic strip Krazy Kat by George Herriman, recognizes outstanding achievement in comics and cartooning and is given out annually in conjunction with SPX. This year's award winners will be announced at a gala on September 26th, 2009 at 9pm.
