UK Anime Network reports that MVM will distribute new editions of two 1980s anime, Bubblegum Crisis and Riding Bean. According to the report, Riding Bean is tentatively scheduled for May.
MVM's new edition of Bubblegum Crisis will include the eight OVA episodes in both Japanese and lossless English. It will also include the Hurricane Live 2032/2033 Bubblegum Crisis animated music videos, and the live-action music video, "The Holiday in Bali."
UK Anime Network also mentions there will be additional "selected music videos remastered in HD," and that MVM's release will use the "latest MediaOCD masters" and will have Collectors packaging.
Released in Japan as an OAV series from 1987 to 1991, Bubblgum Crisis is set in a future when Tokyo was flattened by a great earthquake. A new city, MegaTokyo, was then recreated, with the aid of a multi-million dollar company, Genom Corp. Genom created and mass-produced biomechanical creatures called Boomers to aid in the restoration of MegaTokyo. When the Boomers began to run out of control, a group of four girls from varying degrees of society banded together. Calling themselves The Knight Sabers, they were the only ones with enough firepower and resourcefullness to defend the fledgling MegaTokyo from Genom and its berserk Boomers.
MVM's new edition of Riding Bean will include an interview with the director Kenichi Sonoda (Gunsmith Cats manga, Otaku no Video character design). The 1989 OVA is based on Sonoda's manga.
In the story, Bean Bandit and his partner Rally Vincent are couriers for hire — transporting clients and delivering goods in his custom sports car "Roadbuster" for a hefty price. But when they are hired to escort a kidnapped girl named Chelsea to her home, they don't realize they're being framed for kidnapping as their former clients Semmerling and Carrie plan their escape with Chelsea's father and the ransom.
