Comic Market Ties All-Time One-Day Attendee Record

210,000 attendees on 3rd day of event

The Comic Market 94 (Comiket 94) event, Japan's largest event for selling self-published dōjinshi works, drew about 210,000 attendees on its third day at Tokyo Big Sight on Sunday. It tied the all-time one-day attendee record, last reached on Comic Market 93's third day. Across all three days of the Comiket 94 event, there were about 530,000 attendees.

Comiket does not have unique passes for visitors, so a person who attends all three days would be counted three times.

Total attendance was down from last winter's Comiket 93 event, which drew 550,000 attendees. However, it was up from last summer's Comiket 92 event, which drew 500,000 attendees. Comiket 84 set both a summer and an overall record in 2013 with 590,000 attendees. Comiket 87 in 2014 holds the record for a winter Comiket attendance with 560,000 attendees.

Comiket 95 will run from December 29 to December 31. Comiket 96 will expand to a record four days, from August 9 to August 12, 2019, and Comiket 97 will run from December 28 to December 31, 2019. Due to renovations for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Comiket will place the regular dōjinshi circles in Tokyo Big Sight's existing West Exhibition Hall and two areas in the South Exhibition Hall (now under construction). However, the booths for commercial companies will be about 1.5 kilometers (about one mile) away, in the Aomi Exhibition Hall (now under construction) near the Rinkai! train line's Tokyo Teleport Station. Comiket 98 will run during the Golden Week holidays in April and May of 2020, instead of during the summer of 2020.
