Detective Pikachu 3DS Game's English Trailer Streamed
posted on by Karen Ressler
Nintendo of America and Nintendo UK began streaming a trailer for the Western release of the Detective Pikachu Nintendo 3DS game on Thursday. The video shows the game's various Pokémon characters, including Mimikyu, a Pokémon that had not yet been announced when the game launched in Japan.
The two videos are the same excepting some text changes.
The game is slated for March 23.
The Pokémon Company describes the story:
An action-adventure title, Detective Pikachu finds the hero of the title – a unique Pikachu in the Pokémon world – partnering with Tim Goodman and searching for evidence and clues to solve a series of cases, whilst also investigating the disappearance of Tim's father, Harry Goodman. When he arrives in Ryme City looking for his missing father, little does Tim know he would meet a Pikachu, but more amazingly a Pikachu who he could communicate with. There's more to this Pikachu than a detective hat – he's one lovably gruff, tough-talking sleuth, with a taste for good coffee.
This Pikachu claims that he worked with Tim's father, and the two pair up to discover his whereabouts. Together, Tim and Detective Pikachu will encounter a number of mysteries in Ryme City and will need to talk to witnesses and gather their testimony in order to discover the truth. Cases that would be impossible for Tim to solve alone can be cracked with the help of this Pikachu, because he is able to obtain vital clues and information from other Pokémon.
An amiibo figurine for the Detective Pikachu character will also be available when the game launches. It is larger than a regular amiibo and allows players to view the "Pika Prompts" video clips from chapters they have completed.
The Detective Pikachu game includes all chapters from the original Japanese version of the game, Meitantei Pikachu ~Shin Combi Tanjō~ (Famous Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo), which The Pokémon Company launched as a digital download for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan in February 2016. In addition, the new game features additional content that completes the original story.
Universal Pictures and Legendary Entertainment's live-action Pokémon film is based on Detective Pikachu. The film will open on May 10, 2019, and Ryan Reynolds will play Detective Pikachu.
