The official website for the She and Her Cat -Everything Flows- series of anime shorts announced on Thursday that the Blu-ray Disc and DVD release of the series will include a "complete edition" with additional footage. The opening sequence will also be expanded to 90 seconds.
This edition will also get a one-week theatrical screening at Tokyo's Tollywood theater (which specializes in screening short films). The first screening will be held on May 21, and will feature a talk by director Kazuya Sakamoto and series writer Naruki Nagakawa (who also wrote the story's novelization).
The Blu-ray Disc and DVD will ship on May 18 for 5,500 yen (about US$52) and 3,500 yen (about US$32), respectively.
The four-episode television anime based on Makoto Shinkai's original short aired on the Ultra Super Anime Time programming block on Tokyo MX and BS11 from March 4 to 25. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.
Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star, 5 Centimeters Per Second, The Garden of Words) released his original She and Her Cat five-minute short anime independently in 1999. Shinkai voiced the cat while his wife (then girlfriend) Mika Shinohara voiced the girl. Shinkai produced and animated the short alone, and his longtime collaborator Tenmon composed the music. The short won the grand prize at the 12th DoGA CG Animation Contest in 2000. ADV Films' 2003 DVD release of Shinkai's Voices of a Distant Star includes the short.
A manga adaptation is currently running in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine, but it will end on May 25.
