Bandai Namco Games had previously revealed its plan for the game's downloadable contents, as well as showing the appearance of some of the game's characters turned to evil by Towa, one of the game's antagonists.

The game will ship for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 consoles in Japan on February 5, and then in the United States on February 24 and in Europe on February 27. It will also debut on PC via Steam on February 27.

The exclusive day one edition in the United States will include exclusive Frieza Soldier battle suits and Super Saiyan IV Vegeta as an exclusive playable character. Early Japanese bonuses include a Trunks:Xeno battle card for the Dragon Ball Heroes game, and a serial code to use Trunks:Xeno in the Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle smartphone game.

In Japan, the game will feature an original video anime (OVA) relating to the events in the game.
