Nintendo: Some Amiibo Figures Unlikely to Get 2nd Shipments
posted on by Rachel Mahoney
Nintendo confirmed to Wired on Monday that several of the amiibo figures will "likely" not get second shipments.
Nintendo commented after North American buyers noticed that some figures, such as Fire Emblem's Marth, the Animal Crossing Villager, and the Wii Fit Trainer, were sold out at a number of retailers and apparently not slated to return.
Nintendo's statement reads:
We will aim for certain amiibo to always be available. These will be for our most popular characters like Mario and Link. Due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment.
Many Japanese retailers, such as Amazon Japan, still have the figures in stock.
Amiibo figures unlock exclusive game content and features in games such as Super Smash Brothers. The first round of figures shipped on November 21, and the second round is slated for February 2015.
Nintendo declined to comment on the scarcity of GameCube controller adapters, another device popular for Super Smash Brothers gameplay.
