Kyoto Animation Posts Kyōkai no Kanata's 2nd Promo & Ad

posted on by Egan Loo

The official website for the anime adaptation of Nagomu Torii's Kyōkai no Kanata light novels began streaming the second promotional video and commercial on Thursday. The promotional video and commercial both showcase the main characters, but the promotional video also reveals the voice cast for still more characters:

Risa Taneda as Mirai Kuriyama, the heroine of the story of Kyōkai no Kanata. She is an underworlder who has the ability to manipulate blood. However, this ability is considered heresy by even the other underworlders, so she is shunned. Due to a certain incident in the past, she is not good at dealing with Yōmu, and thus her source of income was cut off. Thanks to this, she lives in great poverty. Her hobbies are tending bonsai plants and looking at unhappy blogs. Mirai is a first-year student in high school.

KENN as Akihito Kanbara, an immortal half-demon and the protagonist of this story. Due to his rare heritage, he is unable to become a underworlder or a Yōmu. Due to this, he feels very isolated from the rest of the world, but he has lived his life trying to ignore that fact. He is a huge fan of glasses, and calls himself the “Meganest” (Glasses-est). He is a second-year student in high school and a member of the literature club.

Minori Chihara as Mitsuki Nase, the sadistic second daughter of the famous underworlder Nase household. She is with Akihito in order to observe him, but she is in fact very worried about him. She is good enough friends with Akihito to be able to speak frankly with him, and is the president of the school's literature club as a second-year student.

Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Hirofumi Nase, the eldest son of the famous underworlder Nase family and Mitsuki's elder brother. It appears that Hirofumi and Akihito had something happen between them in the past, but now they are on such good terms that they can joke around with each other. He has a big sister complex. Due to his barrier powers as an underworlder, he is extremely sensitive to cold, and is almost always seen wearing a muffler or scarf. Hirofumi is a third-year student in high school.

The rest of the cast includes:

Yuri Yamaoka as Ai Shindō, the original anime character who lives with Ayaka Shindō

Naomi Shindoh as Ayaka Shindō, an underworlder who knows Akihito's secret

Akeno Watanabe as Shizuku Ninomiya, an underworlder intermediary with the literature club

Moe Toyota as Sakura Iha, the original anime character deeply linked with Mirai

Masaya Matsukaze as Miroku Fujima of the underworlder society

Ayako Kawasumi as Izumi Nase, the oldest sister in the Nase family

The website also posted the second piece of key visual art, with the tagline spoken by Mirai at the end of the promotional video: "Sempai, you won't go anywhere, right?"

The dark fantasy follows a high school sophomore named Akihito Kanbara. Although the boy appears human, he is half Yōmu and invulnerable to wounds because he can heal quickly. One day, Akihito meets first-year student Mirai Kuriyama when it seems she is about to jump from the school rooftop. Mirai is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is unique even among members of the underworld. Disturbing events begin to unfold after Akihito saves Mirai.

Taichi Ishidate (episodes of Clannad After Story, Hyōka, K-ON) is directing the anime at Kyoto Animation, and Jukki Hanada (Gakuen Alice, Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai!, Steins;Gate) is in charge of the series scripts. Miku Kadowaki (The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, K-ON! movie animation director) is designing the characters.

Chihara is not only part of the voice cast, but she is also singing the opening theme song, "Kyōkai no Kanata." Hikaru Nanase (Infinite Stratos, Zone of the Enders, Scrapped Princess, Polyphonica, Galaxy Angel) is scoring the music.

Kyōkai no Kanata received an honorable mention in the novel category of the Kyoto Animation Award program in 2011. The studio released the first volume last year, and the second volume shipped in April.

The anime will premiere on the Asahi Broadcasting Corporation, Tokyo MX TV, and TV Aichi stations on October 2.
