Crayon Shin-chan Character Designer Hiroshi Ogawa Passes Away

Animation director Hiroshi Ogawa passed away due to stomach cancer on Wednesday, August 7 at 9:20 a.m. He was 62.
Born in Tokyo, Ogawa graduated from Tokyo Designer Gakuin College in 1976. He then worked at several animation studios, including Tsuchida Production, Disney Japan, and Shin-Ei Animation (as a freelancer). He co-founded Studio 501 and served as a board director.
Ogawa worked as a character designer and chief animation director for the Crayon Shin-chan television anime series and films. He was also the character designer and chief animation director for Nono-chan, Gatapishi, Dororonpa!, and other titles. He served as an animation director or animator on Lupin III, Maison Ikkoku, Grave of the Fireflies, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Thundercats, and Arashi no Yoru ni. Since 2006, he taught animation as a professor at the renowned Kyoto Seika University.
Ogawa's memorial will be held on Friday in Asaka City, followed by a private service on Saturday. He leaves behind his wife Mineko.
