Yowamushi Pedal TV Anime/OVA's Cast, Staff Revealed

The 21st issue of Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine is revealing the main cast members of the Yowamushi Pedal television anime on Thursday. The same main cast will appear on an original anime DVD that will bundle with limited-edition versions of the 29th volume of Wataru Watanabe's original Yowamushi Pedal manga. The main cast is as follows:
- Daiki Yamashita as Sakamichi Onoda
- Kōsuke Toriumi as Shunsuke Imaizumi
- Jun Fukushima as Shōkichi Naruko
The magazine will also reveal that Osamu Nabeshima (D.Gray-man, Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, Zetman) will direct the anime. Reiko Yoshida (Tamako Market, K-ON!, Bakuman.) will be in charge of series composition, while Takahiko Yoshida (Welcome to the NHK, Big Windup!) will serve as character designer.
The manga's story centers around Sakamichi Onoda, a high school otaku who loves figures from anime and games so much that he would ride his commuter bicycle to and from Tokyo's Akihabara shopping district in a 90-kilometer (about 60-mile) round trip over steep slopes. Onoda ends up joining the competitive sport of bicycle racing.
Watanabe launched the manga in 2008, and the 29th volume will ship for 3,880 yen (about US$39) on August 8. The manga already inspired a stage play that ran in Tokyo last year.
The television anime will premiere in Japan this year.
